it's time to check in with mark collins for the latest on the bay area forecast. mark, of course, we are thinking of the people there in the northeast, tough, but today, it's not very nice here, either. >> reporter: it's not very nice. we have our own issues here dreary weather, wet spots out there, and not a good day to be on the beach. the gulf coast surfers really made out over the last few weeks with the high wave activity, and what we are seeing here are the light sprinkles moving onshore. quick-moving showers, and it's not going to accumulate much, and it will certainly not last all day long. that's good news over the next couple of hours. the showers will taper off, and the snow will pick up in the northeast, the access of the heaviest snow stretching pennsylvania to new york through new england, and 2 feet of snow. really the perfect setup with the low twirling away, putting all the warm, moist air over the colder temperatures over the northeast, and so a big blizzard mess there, and on the heels of that we are dealing with colder temperatures this morning.

hit a few houses this storm was very unusual in that meteorologists steve jerve, meteorologist mark collins and m self watched a cell start well out in the gulf of mexico, 30 to 40 miles and we knew, when it came on shore it would be a strong tornado. what happened is at 3:00. it hit the siesta key area. that was the damage you were seeing with mary mcguire on scene there. this is 3:08 in the morning. we were on-air live telling you about it. normally what would happen is that this storm would go back up in the clouds and that would be it. that was not the case with this storm. this is a long track tornado or jumped for many, many miles. so again, starting in the siesta key area, it tracked over i-75 in sarasota county and into manatee county where then it crossed overstate road, i believe that is state road 60 and over into the duette community in north east manatee county where we've heard there have been fatalities, and injuries. the exact same cell we tracked for 30 miles off shore hit the siesta key area and moved into manatee county and hit the duette community and brought some damage
