to the top stories in a moment but let's start by checking on the forecast with meteorologist mark collins. >> good morning, candace. the weather cooperated yesterday changes here today. just slightly warmer temperatures. we're still looking at some of the pesky, high clouds. you can see it here as we look out over the freedom pinellasa. retirement community camera. -- camera retirement community camera you can see temperatures at 55 degrees. what we're dealing with today is quite a lot of moisture but this is around 30,000 feet in the sky and it is the thin clouds you see here on the satellite streaming in all the way from mexico which will kind of filter the sunshine here today but despite that, no rain in the forecast here this afternoon. for the morning, on the cool side. we'll be in the mid-50's and as we head through the afternoon, temperatures will be warming into the low 70s. the trend over the next couple of days is for warmer temperatures right on through the middle of the week and that will be our next opportunity for some rain. so several days of wet weather here during the up

it's time to check in with mark collins for the latest on the bay area forecast. mark, of course, we are thinking of the people there in the northeast, tough, but today, it's not very nice here, either. >> reporter: it's not very nice. we have our own issues here dreary weather, wet spots out there, and not a good day to be on the beach. the gulf coast surfers really made out over the last few weeks with the high wave activity, and what we are seeing here are the light sprinkles moving onshore. quick-moving showers, and it's not going to accumulate much, and it will certainly not last all day long. that's good news over the next couple of hours. the showers will taper off, and the snow will pick up in the northeast, the access of the heaviest snow stretching pennsylvania to new york through new england, and 2 feet of snow. really the perfect setup with the low twirling away, putting all the warm, moist air over the colder temperatures over the northeast, and so a big blizzard mess there, and on the heels of that we are dealing with colder temperatures this morning.

hit a few houses this storm was very unusual in that meteorologists steve jerve, meteorologist mark collins and m self watched a cell start well out in the gulf of mexico, 30 to 40 miles and we knew, when it came on shore it would be a strong tornado. what happened is at 3:00. it hit the siesta key area. that was the damage you were seeing with mary mcguire on scene there. this is 3:08 in the morning. we were on-air live telling you about it. normally what would happen is that this storm would go back up in the clouds and that would be it. that was not the case with this storm. this is a long track tornado or jumped for many, many miles. so again, starting in the siesta key area, it tracked over i-75 in sarasota county and into manatee county where then it crossed overstate road, i believe that is state road 60 and over into the duette community in north east manatee county where we've heard there have been fatalities, and injuries. the exact same cell we tracked for 30 miles off shore hit the siesta key area and moved into manatee county and hit the duette community and brought some damage

collins snow stick challenge. >>> the district has issued hundreds of thousands of fines and towed nearly 600 cars because people were parking in the emergency routes during the blizzard. >> as mark segraves is about to show you, getting your car back is not as easy as you might think. right, mark? >> yeah, wendy, nothing is easy after this blizzard. and particularly getting your car back. the snow emergency went into effect early friday morning. and since then, the district has been ticketing and towing cars, moving them off of the snow emergency routes to make sure for snowplows and emergency vehicles. but not everyone was able to move their car in time. two feet of snow is hard to plow. especially if parked cars are in the way. that's one reason mayor bowser declared a snow emergency and cars ticketed and towed if they're on snow emergency routes. since friday morning, 600 cars were stowed and 200 more were given tickets. the drivers weren't happy with the tickets, telling us the car was moved where it would move them. >> if your car was towed, trying to recover it won't be easy. first of all, it's not at the district's impound lot where you might think it is. >> the 572 vehic
