i am very fortunate to have district 2 represented by mark farrell. [applause] very simply, we've not had any confirmed decisions on the budget, but i have bought $3.6 million gap that i have helped plug with the great budget team and the department heads and your input. this is the fourth of 10 town halls on the budget i promised to hold. i have one tomorrow and combined two on saturday and several more next week and then we start making hard decisions, because it is not easy. part of the reason it is not easy -- as we will find out -- it is not just the services. we are killing ourselves with an -- with the runaway pension system. so, i am cooking very hard to plug that -- working very hard to plug up. every week, i need with our labor unions, with our comptroller. we will get to the point in a few weeks that the labor unions and the board of supervisors will a great what we have to do to correct this long term so it does not give us the way it has this year, to the tune of 125 additional -- $125 million. there would not be a reason to hold these to

it just so happened on that same day i introduced a formal request, supervisors mirkarimi and mark farrell introduced their versions. it is very appropriate be consider all of these items together. i want to thank ted egan and the comptroller's office for their report, which responds to our legislation, which charts a good path forward to deal with the potential fight -- spike in peril tax liability for private companies that could go public with significant valuation. i would like to take a moment to talk about the other amendments on supervisor mercury's -- mirkarimi's amendments, and then i am sure mr. egan will go into them in more detail. there are a set of amendments to change the proposal that had initially focused a two-year tax exclusion to only tech companies who had been founded after 2001, that were larger than 100 employees. i would suggest that we not omit this legislation to just as companies, that we need to have the exclusion open to any private company that undertakes either an initial public offering on a public stock exchange, or experiences a change of control prior to

supervisor farrell: thank you, supervisor chiu, mark. i know you have been in district two, and i know people have appreciated working together. that being said, there are still a lot of concerns, so i went to flesh this out with you and see what you envision happening. >> sure. an example where we have actually gone through the dpw process. this was in district 1. we have an existing cross connect box. we met with the condominium association. they very much wanted this, a competitive choice. we said we would ideally like to place it next to your existing cabinet, but we can work within 300 feet to find a place. the existing cabinet is off of the sidewalks and behind a hedge row of bushes. we were able to go in and place a second cabinet. we went through and met with them. we met with the neighbors and put a public notice before we filed with dpw and got their input if there were any complaints or concerns, and once there was none, we filed with dpw, but that kind of interaction with the community, it need not be next to the existing box
