[applause] if you were at the dinner last saturday or the inauguration, he can be a stand-up. ed lee announced jay knapf as the chief innovation officer. he is the chief innovation officer, but his nickname is chief heck officer. because we are going to adopt a charter to create jobs in san francisco, we want to think back to where jobs really originate, where people start their work ethic, and that is in grade school. we are to partner with community organizations in san francisco, and we have with us today chuck collins from the ymca, robert connolly from the

president david chiu, you and i, jane kim, have spoken, mark farrell, christine olague, have spoken in depth about what our future holds for us. i want you to know that i am sharing this excitement with them. we have a constituent that is in great need. i am going to take a page from what willie brown has always represented to me. he said as good advice, if you feel passionate about something, don't did there. move on it fast. i cannot think of an initiative -- it has not even been one week since i took the oath of this elected office, and here we are on the first friday, moving this and what the technology really like, an accelerated pace. we cannot wait for bad news to happen to us. as i have said, every time i turn around, the state and the fed's are going to say what we are going to cut. we are not waiting. we are going to create our own culture, our own obligations, create and support an industry that wants to support us. s.f. citi is the right thing. when i announced one year ago that i was very much in support of local higher, we did something similar here. we created a mechanis

[applause] and the man who supplies most of jefferies client' client becauss -- because he insists on are arresting and prosecuting people. [applause] and then of course there are members of your school board who are here with what jerry brown is doing to them in sacramento on the budget side they certainly will be coming to your door quite often for assistance, so they are here. president of that board -- actually works for you, i do mendozmendoza. a couple months after that, mark farrell and i were talking about a tech crunch article that talked about the ludicrous stupidity of a city that enjoyed taxing the stock options of technology start-ups. that has changed. christine olague has worked with low-income communities for years, and i know she is very committed to figuring out how we make sure that latino immigrant who maybe eight years old who lives in her district may someday work at a company like yours. we are committed to being partners with all of you, with our mayer, chief innovation officer, and we have a lot of work to do. we have schools that needs to be fixed, taxis that need to be cut, muni systems the need to be recalled, and i hope ideas on how to changes are here in this room. we look forward to working with you. thank you. [applause] >> sovereign lano county d.a., sonoma county d.a., supervisors mark farrell, malia cohen, charmen chu. judges, i understand they were all invited. i hope some are here. members of the council core and our fire chief, our wonderful fire chief joanne hayes-white. i met the person i'm going to introduce next way back in the 1960's and he had tried to buy a house in san francisco in forest noles. and he was refused because of race. and that was a long time ago, but this is a fact and so some of us went out, my daughter who is now a judge was in her stroller and we picketed the developer which was sun stream homes then on 19th avenue and finally that was put to rest. but it gives you and idea of how things change over time and how necessary it is to have people who care about these rights and who were willing to work for these rights. we became fast friends and we have for at least three decades now. i ran for the board of supervisors in 1969, no public official would support me but one. and it was willie brown. and since that time -- [applause] >> i think it's fair to say that
