exclusive mark farrell lived large on a campaign cash while mayor and supervisor. joining us live now to talk about his article is senior reporter for the standard, josh kane. hey, josh, good to see you. >> hey, kristin. >> good to see you. all right. we should say off the top that farrell emphatically disputes the framing around the article and also the notion that anything improper happened. will share his statement in a minute. but first, tell us what prompted your investigation and what you found. >> well, lately i've been looking back at old campaign finance reports for people who are running for office. we talked recently about assembly member matt haney, who spent a lot of campaign cash on 40 niners tickets, which he called fundraisers. and so now just kind of going down the list, i decided to start looking at mayor candidates here in san francisco. and mark farrell has had some really interesting findings that were very different than almost everyone else who's running for mayor. >> all right. so tell us what they were. what did he spend money on? what kind

that includes former interim san francisco mayor and supervisor mark farrell. we did speak with him during our 8:00 newscast this morning, and he says the mayor's office is moving too slow. after that, supreme court decision to remove homeless camps, the fact that this grants pass decision came down almost a month ago, that the city of oakland has already started implementing their policies, that we've had to have the governor come down with his mandate today. and the city of san francisco hasn't done a thing. the bottom line is we don't have our act together. before governor newsom's announcement, this morning, mayor breed said her office was getting ready to clear homeless encampments beginning next month. okay, quick reminder on who is challenging mayor london breed. as you just heard, former sf interim mayor mark farrell, daniel lurie, a nonprofit executive district 11 supervisor asha safai and current president of the board of supervisors aaron peskin. take a look at this video shows what appears to be a car explosion on the bay bridge. a car fire sparked

joining us today is former supervisor and former interim mayor mark farrell.mark, thank you for coming in. thanks for joining us. thanks for having me. all right. so in 2018, you were interim mayor for about six months, right before mayor london breed actually won that special election to fill the seat vacated by the late ed lee. you left politics for venture capital. why do you want to be mayor now? >> you know, i left city hall in 2018 because my children, my wife and i are raising our three children here in san francisco. and at the time, they were five, ten and 12 years old, seemed to be the right time to be home with them, to know me as know that i'm a dad first, and i enjoy coaching sports teams, traveling with our children, and being really engaged in their schools. but i'll tell you, i'm running for mayor here in 2024 because of my children. again our oldest child is our daughter who just graduated from high school. she's going off to college in about five weeks. >> congratulations. >> thank you. but i want her to be proud to call san francisco home. i

mark farrell joins us now live to talk about this plan. thanks so much, mark, for taking the time. new park that we just showed is part of a 20 year vision for the area that you outlined today. i mean, it's bold, it's ambitious. how do you plan to get it done? >> look, we got to set the stage and be honest where we sit as a city of san francisco in our downtown core. you know, right now, we have record commercial vacancy rates. we have conventions that have left indefinitely. large retailers like macy's and nordstrom's have pulled up their stakes. we need to articulate a bold vision for the future and a change of direction in city hall that focuses on public safety, that focuses on housing and being proactive with our business community. building a brand new park at the foot of market street to be an entrance to san francisco from the ferry building. that, to me is a bold vision that i believe not only san francisco residents, but the people that we want to attract. downtown san francisco will be attracted to. >> okay, mayor breed, though mark has already been talking about night m

that includes incumbent mayor london breed, former interim mayor mark farrell and supervisors aaron peskin and asha safai, as well as philanthropist daniel lurie. now this comes just a few months before the mayoral election in november. as candidates for the office ramp up their criticisms and outline some of their plans, make their final pitch to voters. there are about 1500 members of the san francisco fire departments union, and even though some of them may not live in san francisco or even be san francisco voters, any political candidate running for office does want the union's endorsement. in fact, supervisor aaron peskin was quoted in an article in the local news site mission local that he quote, covets the firefighters union endorsement mission local also reports that in recent months, many of the candidates for mayor have been unexpectedly dropping into firehouses, hoping to meet and speak with them if firefighters in person across the city. now, this morning's debate organized by the union gives the candidates a chance to speak to firefighters membershi, union membership and hear
