our very own mark gurman is here with the latest. talk to us about the visit itself from tim cook. early cook is having a busy week. he's scheduled to meet with top d.c. lawmakers. he has elon musk at the apple park headquarters earlier today around lunchtime. they went through a walk through the campus. we all know what they talked about. i'm curious to know if musk asked for special pricing on the app store. in terms of this d.c. meeting he's scheduled to meet with jim jordan. some of these lawmakers he's meeting with, they will be at the top of the gop when they take back the house next year, so it's important for cook to rebuild these relationships given the changeover happening in congress. apple will continue to be under a lot of scrutiny, whether it's the twitter situation, free speech, content moderation, whether that has to do with the app store and fees that some developers are not happy with. we had the epic games trial that remains ongoing. privacy and security, the environment, clearly many different issues that apple and congress are overlapping with that we will conti

mark gurman broke the story and joins us now. why is apple making these production cuts? mark: two things going on here. you have the iphone 14 and iphone 14 plus, than the i-80 -- the iphone 14 pro and max. in terms of the 3 million units, going from 90 million to 87 million, that is because of softer demand that has plagued those two lower and iphone for teens from the beginning. the pro and pro max is supply issue. aand apple put out a warning discussing how their outlook is going to be lower than anticipated because of the output at their foxconn facility for those two particular models in china going mostly off-line. due to covid protocols. so mostly it is a supply and demand issue depending on which models of the iphone 14 you are looking at. emily: how will this impact of company's outlook? you have reported about spending -- tim cook told us he would be more deliberate about spending, then getting pretty granular in your reporting about what rules they plan to cut and keep. how does this fit into apple's bigger picture? mark: right now it seems pretty clear that re

mark gurman joins us now. we know this has gone on for seven days to get this outbreak under control coming at a critical time for apple, for deliveries. >> they are banking on selling tons of the iphone 14, the iphone 14 pro. they really don't keep that many weeks of channel inventory. the iphone 14 line has not been plentiful if you go to an apple store. the shipment timelines are slightly delayed as well. they are not instant. it is not long-term the delays -- not long-term delays. this comes at an opportune time for apple. they do have some foxconn locations another finalist emily partners for the iphone -- locations and partners for the iphone. i don't think this will be a major challenge for apple. i certainly think they may have expected something like this to happen. but we really won't know what this is going to shape out to be like until we see the shipment timelines if they get delayed or not as we approached closer to the real hard -- the real holiday season. kathleen: was going to be the challenge

mark gurman joins us. were foreshadowing this given the lockdowns we have seen around foxconn in shinto. how will this affect seasonality into christmas? mark: i think this is a massive issue for apple. we have been bracing for an announcement like this from apple the last week and a half or so as we saw covid lockdowns stronger than they have been in several months in the region area as we know, -- the region. as we know, apple does not diversify output for high-end iphones. the vast majority results in the vast majority of overall revenue for all products. all of the shipment comes from that shot -- site in china through foxconn. if that site goes down apple is not in an ideal position. i checked the retail store online. it looks like shipments coming into the u.s. are arriving between early december and mid december, in some cases the end of november. that has been the case. this three to four week window. if you early a phone in early november it will not arrive until next month. i want to see two week
