until today, the only picture we have seen of giffords is this one, hand in hand with her husband mark kelly. but now for the first time since the shooting in tucson, we can see her face, her characteristic smile and her upbeat spirit. the photos were taken boo i a professional photographer on may 17th, one day after she traveled to florida to witness her husband, the commander of the shuttle endeavor, launch into space. along with the photos came the news that before the end of this month congresswoman giffords will be released from the memorial herman hospital where she has lived since january. she will continue her rehab as an outpatient in houston. th morning one of her closest friends had this to say about her progress. >> she spoke to me in full sentences and initiated the sentences instead of responding which is what she has only been able to do recently and she is making remarkable progress. you can see how beautiful she s. >> as for the big question looming about her returning to work, her chief of staff acknowledged this week that giffords has a long way to go. her words are back m
