in reading the notes about the book last night, mark, one of the things i was curious about, for his entire life he was shriver and yet part of the kennedy have an ego about that? >> never. i mean, it's unbelievable that he never complained to family, or friends, i have buddies over to have a couple drinks and he never complained about it. he'd never say i really got shortchanged by the political system or the family. never complained about it. he saw every day as a gift from god. and he was joyful in that moment. and if it didn't work out the next day was another opportunity to do some good. >> he battled alzheimer's disease for a long time. you were in charge of his care, and even as his mental capacity was diminished, you write about the fact that there were moments of clarity. >> yes. >> and one of those moments came at your daughter's lacrosse practice. >> yes. you know, i, like so many other fathers, get really excited about my kid's athletic abilities and yell. and he turned to me -- >> you're yelling at your daughter or a coach? >> yelling at my daughter to move a little faster and dad turned up to me and said, hey, did i yell at

shriver was the ultimate public servant. a true washington insider who was part of the kennedy clan and true royalty. his son markng us a very rare and candid look. in his new book, "a good man." welcome. >> thank you for having me. >> before we get to this, you do a lot work at save the children. we've been hear michael reagan, son of a president, talking in really graphic, harrowing terms about the abuse he suffered. what do you think of the whole sandusky case? >> i know having -- before i went to save the children. i started a program for juvenile delinquent cases. the first rule, if you suspect there's abuse, you have to go to the copcops. -- cops. it's like the cardinal rule. >> turn to your father who was a remarkable man. i didn't know how remarkable. not my royal family. we have a royal family. and you are the nearest thing to it in the mearge, the -- in america, the kennedy clan. i find it really a gripping read. he is in many ways was a national hero in his own lifetime. why did you write the book? >> after he died, i essentially didn't know what to do. a lot of friends told me he was a good man. i tho

kennedy shriver. a new book a good man chronicles the professional legacy of sergeant shriver but his commitment to family and faith and tonight, we are privileged to welcome the book's author, mark shriver's five children, a senior vice president at save the children and coming to us tonight, i think from washington, d.c. are you there? >> yes. i am here. yes. thank you very much, governor. >> you bet. what a fabulous book and what a fabulous father and role model. in fact, a lot of people would say your father is a great man. why do you call him a good man? >> you know, a lot of folks said that he was a great man as he was dying you mentioned some of the accomplishments. you didn't mention legal services, foster grandparents vista and you did say about his work with my mom's special olympics all around the globe but what resonated with me were the folks who waited in line who were not presidents or senators or congressmen or women but the two waitresses who said he was a good man to them. the guy from the u.s. air counter at national airport who said that dan was a good man and some of his happiest moments were taking my father through the security line at the national airport
