mark lehman is following this breaking news. what are police saying about a possible suspect. >> police aren't releasing any information about who the gunman is or if there is more than one suspect. just 30 minutes ago, police remove the crime scene tape from this apartment complex. we have learned the shooting happened inside apartment three of this building. this is video overnight. a line of officers making their way into the same apartment. police say they got the 911 call around 10:30 for reported gun shots in the area. two were found shot as officers arrived. a man was killed and a woman with a bullet wound to her hand. so far, that's the only thing investigators are saying about what happened here. we spoke with a woman who lives right next door to the apartment she says her boyfriend heard the commotion and heard children crying and screaming after the shooting. we are working to gather more information about a possible suspect. coming up in the next half-hour, you'll hear from the woman and what she has to say about the

mark lehman joins us there live. how is the victim doing, mark? >> thankfully, his injuries are non-life threatening. it appears he will be ok after a confrontation. it happened behind me in this neighborhood down lake heart drive. notice the line of cars, all this happening right outside the victim's home. now, this was the scene where you can see a large response by deputies to the moss park commons neighborhood. the sheriff said the victim spotted two people trying to break into his vehicle around 11:30. that's when the 30-year-old confronted the suspect. they then took off running. the victim chased after them. it was during that chase when deputies say one of the suspects opened fire, shooting the victim at least once. the two men jumped into a nearby vehicle and sped away. as we come back live here, since into cars, i did some digging and found there were at least seven burglaries dating back to last week in this general area, although none specifically in this neighborhood. i'm going to be asking deputies if there is any connection they thi

for now, reporting in orange county, mark lehman, news 6. >> thank you. in volusia county, we're learning more about a fire at a building that was in the process of being transformed into a mosque. >> the state fire marshal says they do not think this was the result of a hate crime. it all happened in daytona beach, just a few blocks from nova road. it used to be a ymca. but the islamic center bought it recently to turn it into a place of worship. when firefighters got there, smoke could be seen coming from the building. the smoke was contained to one room, the building's gymnasium. the fire marshal said there were no signs pointing to a hate crime or arson. they're still investigating and say they'll have an update later this week. >> well, right now, at least 36 deaths are linked to the blizzard that pounded much of the east coast over the weekend. >> many died shoveling the from the carolinas to new york. passengers were also left stranded in airports. cbs reporter craig boswell has the story. >> snow blowers, shovels, and bulldozer are a necessity in

mark lehman is live this morning. what are police telling you so far? >> reporter: police are releasing little bitted information. they are not saying where on the property the shooting happened. you can see the crime scene van is just getting ready to leave the scene. they just took down the caution tape. detectives were focusing much of their investigation on this building you see here off melonville avenue. look at the video we had overnight when we spotted a line of officers making their way to an apartment with guns drawn and one carrying some sort of bullet proof shield. around 10:30 for a report of gun shots fired in the area. they also found a woman in her late 20's, she had a bullet wound to her hand. that's the only thing investigators are saying about what happened. we know a large scale search was mounted in the area. it appears police are looking for one gunman. as we come live tot apartments, so far, no information has been released about possible suspects. also detectives aren't telling us much about the victims and what their relationshi

mark lehman is live outside the seminole county jail this morning where prichard is being held without bond. how were detectives able to track down the suspects? >> details are still coming out on this. the sheriff's office says a deputy was patrolling in the area and heard gun shots. he was able to responsibility within seconds. that was crucial for gathering information on a possible suspect. deputies caught up to the suspect and he was taken into custody. >> 30-year-old james prichard is waking up in jail after they are saying prichard gunned down a woman in sanford less than 240 hours earlier. night. many were overcome with emotion after learning 36-year-old oceanett hampton was shot and killed. a nearby deputy was on patrol when that happened and he heard the gun fire. when the deputy rushed to the bar, he found hampton badly injured. she died a short time later. in the hours that followed, a small memorial formed at the shooting scene and signs were posted asking for witnesses to come forward. deputies say those tips led to prichard who is now charged in the shooting. >> those ch
