nbc news senior political editor mark murray joins us now. 538 mentions tarrant county, one fourth ofwright won by 9 points in 2020. how do you describe the political landscape of this district? >> this is a district that's definitely trending democratic. it's not quite there yet, but when this kind of new realignment of our politics where urban america has become much, much more democratic, even places in texas, in georgia that were once republican bast you knows friendly to democratic candidates. rural america has become a whole lot more republican. so we have seen in elections, including what you talked about in 2020, where trump won this district by just three points after double digit republican performances in past ones. so, if you continue to game out, we're talking 2022, 2024, this is in the democrat's direction. i think the question is what it is right now in 2021. and this is still a race that is probably lean republican, mainly given the fact that we're still wanting to see if a democrat can even advance to the runoff. this is a free for all contest happening tonight with t

joining me now is mark murray. media? nbc is taking a close look at the social challenge across all of our platforms this week. >> here is the good news. there's something that the american public and social media users agree on, and that is that social media can be divisive. when you actually dig into our poll, we find that majorities of republicans, independents, latinos, whites, seniors, millennials, young people all are in agreement that social media does more to divide us than to unite us. one interesting demographic that was split on this issue, hallie, african-american black respondents who had -- 42% think social media does more to divide us rather than 40% who think it brings us together. the other finding is when you ask a different kind of question on is social media making your life better or worse, we end up having a plurality of 49% say it makes our lives better versus 37% who think it make ours lives worse. bottom line, a lot of people are on social media. they think it's divisive but think maybe it

let me turn to mark murray.'s sort of -- the virginia republicans decided they had a problem, that they had one candidate that was extremely supportive of donald trump that was going to win a primary. with that as their problem, they decided, we can't have that. so we need to design a convention. then it seemed to get really out of hand. i will let you pick it up from there. >> you and i have covered a lot of nominating contest. it is an unassembled convention due to the pandemic. you are going to see delegates drive to about 40 locations across the state of virginia and basically hand in their ballots on who they think should end up being their nominees for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. we will see maybe at most about 50,000 delegates. they applied and were selected by local republican units on who can be a delegate. that 50,000 number is far less than the hundreds of thousands that we would end up seeing participate at a normal primarily like on the democratic side on june 8th and the 1.9
