joining us is fund fund strat l advisor, mark newton.s, right? >> the market stalled out in the near term, given the debt ceiling standoff. we're going to need to see a resolution. the s&p tried to get up above 4200. there's a lot of issues america faces right now. that's the most important right now, the front burner. maria: i love the fact the nasdaq is up 20% year-to-date, it's largely a handful of companies at the top of the nasdaq, the super tech companies that are driving things. >> microsoft, facebook, et cetera. maria: exactly. does that tell us the story of what's going on in tech? >> well, it certainly does. we need to keep that very important, those represent over 25% of the s&p and so -- maria: that leadership is critical. >> it's a small percentage of the market. at the same time it's very, very big. we can't ignore them. we need to see other parts of the market start to stabilize and come to life. financials have started that in recent weeks, regional banks, discretionary industrials, majority of other sectors have been tak

that's what mark newton of fundstrat wants to know if the broader market strength is possible if/when technology stalls out and he thinks it looks possible into the end of the week, that's nearer some of the resistance of what is an obviously overbought sector based on the metrics of those who look at that sort of thing that doesn't mean that overbought means, you know, poised for a big decline in any way. things can remain overbought, oversold for an extended period of time. what about that issue of whether if there is a tumble if the tail wind does go away, what, if anything, does pick up the slack? >> i don't know if it's all or nothing, scott i think you have to step back and say why has tech and the large tech names, why have they outperformed everything else it's really because there's been a defensive feel in the market all year long. there's just too many unknowns like with regards to the debt ceiling and with regards to the fed and are they going to pause? are they going to pivot? inflation remains too high all of these concerns have led investors to focus on quality companie
