you have mark o'mara, george zimmerman's lawyer, saying this is not a stand your ground case. now everyone seems to agree but the upshot of that is the law of florida -- >> they're not alone. several states have this law. >> florida was a test case and now proliferated around the case. they don't seem to be going anywhere. >> jonathan, this also again comes at a time talking about gun safety, gun control. trayvon martin's parents taken over basically as activists and talking about newtown and other tragedies. does this properly fit in the current conversation on gun control? >> yes, it does. sabrina fulton would tell you so. i interviewed her on friday about this very subject and she said, you know, she hopes that people use her case, use this case as an example to stand up and to push back against gun violence. she said death is unavoidable but violent crime is. and so, she is personally making the link between the tragedy she's suffered and what she says she hopes no other parent or no one else should have to go through and what's happened in newtown and around the country e

joining me is mark o'mara. he's the attorney for george zimmerman. the man who shot trayvon martin. we've spoken about this case. i'm aware you're restricted from talking about some of the details obviously with an impending trial coming. tell me this, sir, how much is this in the end going to be about stand your ground? because i'm led to believe there is a process called immunity where you can apply for the stand your ground law to be applied, as it is in florida, and if it's successful, there may not even be a trial? >> that's correct. 2005, the legislature changed a couple of things. first they said if you act reasonably and in self-defense, then you can have an immunity hearing. a hearing before a judge to determine if in fact you acted in self-defense, you should not stand trial. you shouldn't even be prosecuted and even shouldn't be arrested. that was one of the changes. the other change that it made -- and this is the one that causes a lot of confusion -- is they added a provision to the statute that said -- and it's known as the stand your ground statute. they say if you ar

zimmerman's attorney mark o'mara is with us.d morning to you. how is george zimmerman doing? he's been out on bail for a while now. how has his life been? >> well, very stressed. he's been living in hiding for the past year and can't go out in public unless he's either in disguise or with body armor. so when you compare it to the loss the martin family is going through it seems to pale in comparison. george's life is drastically changed as well because of the event. >> it showed pictures a moments ago of a vigil and a number of vigils focusing on trayvon martin. i spoke to trayvon's mom and dad yesterday and here's what his mom told me. >> we're doing this for trayvon but this also we need to also do this so that we can help other kids because we have seen since this happened last february to trayvon that other kids, other teenagers have been shot and killed through senseless gun violence and we just feel like we need to do something about it as parents. >> that's sbrabrina fulton talkg about trying to get the stand your ground
