and mark preston, cnn senior political analyst. thank you all for being with us. justin. how do you think this trade war is going to impact specific goods that americans buy from canada? and also the stuff that canadians are buying from americans. >> yeah. so there's some specifics that you'll see. things like fruit and vegetables. we import a lot of our fruit and vegetables from canada and mexico. so that next trip to the supermarket is going to be a whole lot more uncomfortable. now those tariffs are in. but i think rather than listing specific goods, it's worth noting that when there's less competition from abroad, it's also the case that american companies, when they face less competition, are going to hike their prices. so there'll be higher prices all around. and i think more generally, it's worth putting this in a broader context, which is this is the largest tax hike in the united states since 1993. and you can you bet your life you're going to see some economic consequences out of that. >> yeah. that's no fun. add that to what is this. don't check your 401 k week

let's get to cnn's senior political analyst, mark preston. mark, what do you expect the president to say? >> i think he's going to come out and he's going. >> to say, listen, i think that democrats i mean, they're a great party. and i think that we're all unified behind my agenda. that's clearly not what he's going to say. listen, he's going to go out and he is going to talk about how successful he has been in this very short time in office. he's going to talk about how bad the biden administration has been over the past four years, probably the worst. administration ever. and thank god him and his administration has come through. but i will say this, john, a couple of things to watch for is to watch, to see how far donald trump goes in some of his misstatements, let's say, and let's see how much he exaggerates on what elon musk has done so far, because what elon musk has said he has accomplished and the savings don't seem to add up to where they have been selling. this whole idea of downsizing the federal government. >> look, i will say the w

we have cnn senior political analyst mark preston here with us in studio.u, tell us what you are hearing about the meeting with musk. >> yeah, i just talked to a number of senators who left that closed door meeting. and really, the upshot is that they want more of a say in the process over how these cuts are being implemented. and there is now growing talk among senate republicans about putting together a legislative package to essentially codify the cuts that so far have been done administratively. and a lot of those cuts have been have been rejected by the courts. most notably, just earlier today, the supreme court halting this effort to to essentially stop funding, providing funding through the. usaid program. now, there is some discussion about doing that through a process that would actually allow the senate to adopt those cuts through a simple majority, meaning republicans could do that on their own. and i'm told that when those discussions would happen behind closed doors with elon musk, musk was open to this idea. that is the what senators said, inc
