produced with the san francisco small business administration so we have them here today so thank you mark quinn. i also like to give a special thank you to director ed of the sfmta for their sponsorship with bus ads on the [inaudible]. as vice president white stated, this year's theme is small business shaping our communities. they create a vitality in our commercial corridors and neighborhoods and shape our communities. last night we had over 1600 businesses participated in our annual event of the /ta*es taste of san francisco. tomorrow is one of our bigger cornerstone events. we have over 53 workshops taking place on things such as advertiseing, courses on mobile foods, green business practices and social media marketing. one of the bigger events is our annual sidewalk sales. a lot of people think it's not a big deal. when you waive those fees it's a big deal. this year we have 15 neighborhood corridors participating which is an all time high in all 11 districts. you guys get it. i really appreciate everything you guys do and that is a big deal. that will bring people out to shop, eat, drink.

we're joined by mark quinn direct director for northern california. >> thank you. >> welcome. >> thank you president adams. nice to address you here. thank you commission. actually i'm privileged to be able to do this. i think it's great to speak to both commissions. i'm a little surprised this is the first occasion that both of you have been meeting because i feel as soo much of what we see in san francisco related to small business relates to small business and women owned business, so it's surprise this is the first occasion to do it but i'm glad we had the opportunity to do it. i wanted to give you a little context. i decided instead a powerpoint i would like to have a conversation with you and if it's okay with you i am opened to be interrupted in the midst if that works for you all to answer questions. i want to give context around some of the issues that weren't discussed with some of the organizations here. first off i think that the micro-enterprise part of what sba sees and serves all of the organizations here we partner with including the city. all of the organizations do tr

mark quinn is the san francisco district director of the u.s. small business administration. the small business administration covers not only san francisco proper but the bay area. the severed his third district is responsible for a business loan portfolio of 12,000 loans worth $4.2 billion. in 2009, the sba approved $500 million in lending. next, we have the executive director of the san francisco small business office. she was in san francisco in 1986 to open the buffalo exchange limited store, and in the 13 years she worked for buffalo exchange, tennis district manager, she held her open the company from four to 11 stores. in 2009, the mayor appointed her as executive director to the office of small businesses. next, we have the ceo of opportunity funds. he has combined his background as a community organizer with an education from stanford to develop an innovative, not-for- profit financial incision that uses market principles to affect systemic change. it operates one of the nation's largest individual development, programs, a leading provider of micro loans in californ

mark sanford can do it, why not anthony weiner? days after announcing his run for mayor of new york city, a new poll of registered democrats shows he only trails christine quinnpoints putting him in a close second place. he was immediately discounted by pundit but they're not new yorkers. actually, many of them probabliful are could it be, is anthony weiner set up to make it a photo finish? sorry. i don't think the biggest challenge for anthony weiner is the photos on twitter per se. i think the bigger problem and the more legitimate place for his opponents to go regarding that issue is the issue of trust. he lied to new yorkers. he lied to his wife. do you trust him now to be anything about something, to be about anything other than his own ambition? and christine quinn in contrast to that was brutally honest about her own struggles with bulimia and alcoholism. so that kind of candor contrasted with weiner's previous lies, could be very hard for him. for quinn, i think the challenge is that she is starting to get a little whiff of entitlement. it seem like she's the front runner. just today there's an education debate that she decided not to participate in.
