let's talk about it with mark tepper.e it very hard for the fed to continue its fight against inflation with another increase next week and next month? >> no way, absolutely not. the fed has to, if they have any credibility left at all, they have to continue the fight against flakes. and, in fact -- against inflation. and, in fact, if you think about it, if the fed decides not to the hike rates next week, and they were planning on, at least the market was expecting possibly 50 basis points of hikes which is now priced down to less than 25 the basis points right now, if they don't hike at all, what kind of a message because that send to the market about the fed's confidence or lack thereof in our banking system? i think it would send a message to the market, to investors, to consumers that our banking system is skating on thin ice, that it's not as solid as we expect. so the fed has to remain sed the fast, they have to concern steadfast, they have to fight inflation. cpi's still in the 6 # % -- 6% range. the fed has to mak

cheryl: mark tepper is on set with me as well.alking about that in the commercial break. >> we're at 100 basis points which is insane. it's been 40 plus years since we've seen that. i've got to ask you, you made a comment that the recession is always six months out. i 100% agree with you there. every month we move the goal post back so it's another six months away. when you look at -- we've been hearing about mass layoffs for months and months and months. yet jobless claims continue to come in under 200,000 every single week. the nonfarm payrolls numbers continue to come in strong. and we know that monetary policy comes with a lag. it acts with a lag. it's only been a year since the first rate hike. do you think that we're going to be going just fine and then all of a sudden, boom, we're going to get hit hard? >> that's the risk, right, mark, that the fed raises rates until something breaks and that break, right, will be probably when we get that onset of recession, if they've gone too far and we don't know that yet. they're talki

back to the markets, mark tepper is with us for the entire hour. okay. obvious question, if the fed raises interest rates by 25 basis points this afternoon as expected, what's the market do? >> so -- stuart: do you have animals for this? >> yes. the interesting thing is when you look at the market from investor optimism standpoint, this is like the most bullish bear market ever. it just seems like investors continue to see every news headline that comes out through rose colored glasses. if the fed hikes by 25-basis points as expected, the other thing they'll do is reaffirm their confidence in our banking system, which should put some investors concerns at ease. but really the most important part of the meeting is this is a quarterly dot plot meeting and not just about 25 basis points now and how high are we going as far as rates go and that'll come in more hawkish than investors are pricing in now and that could cause a bit of investor indigestion. stuart: we'll have to listen to every word he says in his press conference, and then the algorithms in the
