's charter keeps bright house they will have a larger balance sheet to borrow against. the combined charter-bright house-time warner cable company will have less leverage post-deal because time warner cable wants some cash from the deal. they have a concern with how indebted the new company will be. if you add bright house, mostly stock deal, you have a larger balance sheet. you have a bigger company with more borrowing capacity. mark: combination of directv and at&t is that going to go through? alex: i think that is an outside thing that does not have to do with a band. from everything we hear, that is on pace to be accepted by regulators. mark: alex sherman, you broke the story yesterday. congrat

concerns about the accommodation of comcast and time warner the size of the entity and its hold on the broadband business in this country. a combined mark of 57% of broadband subscribers in this country. that is a central area of concern on the part of the government. the justice department attorneys were leaning towards recommending the government sue to block this combination, that they had not reached a final company -- a final decision on that yet. mark: what can comcast offer the government to make the deal succeed? peter: that is the $45 billion question at this point. they could try to reduce the footprint in terms of the number of subscribers and perhaps selloff geographical areas. but that is part of why they're putting this combination together in new york chicago l.a., these are media markets. a lot of customers comcast would very -- very much like to keep that is part of the calm -- the conversation. can they sell off some of those assets to satisfy the government? could they also perhaps to other conditions meet the test that this be competitive? mark: thank you. paul ryan spoke to peter about the merits of the trade promot

mark: you have talked about consolidation in the past. how have you changed your view now that the comcast-time warner merger is off?ohn: what i have always said about industries that consolidation is inevitable. it is not a matter of if, it is when and how. i will add to that sentence now -- and who. what people need to think about is that entertainment and social are moving to the internet, and the internet is mobile. amongst the players who will be looking to serve customers on a mobile basis, they include the cable players. google has just entered the wi-fi service business. i think you can think about these as potential coming togethers in some fashion over the next five years in the united states. mark: i only have about 20 seconds. i have to ask -- you said cable companies would make sense as an m&a possibility. how likely is that? john: who knows? we will have to wait and see. i just don't that they are an adjacent industry and play in services that could be complementry to what we are doing and if markets are best served they will find a way. mark: always a pleasure. thank you for your time. john: thank you
