dr struggling bay area schools thanks to mark zuckerberg and his wife. christie smith joins us in redwood city with why the silicon valley power couple felt the need to donate $120 million. cri >> one of the most prosperous places in the world but a lot of the public schools don't have the funding and the resources they need to help students succe succeed. he and his wife, dr. priscilla chan decided they wanted to do something about that and improving public education is something that they really care about. the facebook ceo said they went ahead and lisened to the need of educators and ready to throw in their support. $120 million over five years. the announcement was published in an op-ed piece. less than 40% of students were proficient in english arts and less than 50% in art. funding will go towards connectivity for training for teachers and in the ravenswood school district and high-need schools in san francisco. he noted that he's been spending more and more time looking into education issues and he actually recently taught an after school program
