thank you very much, marla. it is 5:30 now.ews on the death of osama bin laden hitting close to home to the people of the bay area. some had family members on flight 93 when it crashed. damian trujillo joins us live where the memorial for the heroes of flight 93 stands. he had reaction from the mother of one of the passengers. good morning, damian. >> reporter: good morning, laura. what a place to be on a day like today. the stone behind me recognizes todd beamer. this one mark bingham. none of the passengers on flight 93 were from union city, but this city felt compelled to honor the 40 passengers and crew members aboard the airliner. four terrorists took over the plane above ohio. flight 93 was headed to sfo from new jersey. they high jacketed the plane and headed for the white house or the capital. mark bingham made a pact with others, they were going to rush the terrorists to foil their plan. flight 93 went down in flames near shanksville, pennsylvania. there were no survivors. his mother spoke last night with diane dwyer.

we want to check in this monday morning with marla tellez. she has a look at a case in san francisco from overnight. good morning. >> good morning to you. good morning to you at home. the time is just about 5:03. a man accused of killing a 3-year-old girl is dead this morning. 20-year-old jesse brown shot and killed himself this weekend after changing fire with police. two officers were shot, but expected to live. brown may have been on the run since the halloween shooting. he allegedly shot a young girl, her grandfather and another girl outside their home. all of them sur strived. >>> police looking for a man who assaulted a woman in south san francisco. the woman was walking last wednesday night when a man grabbed her from behind and tried to rape her. the attacker took off when he couldn't get her clothes off. police say he is hispanic, 5'9", 200 pounds with a stocky build. he has short buzz cut. >>> this morning, a san jose city councilman is taking responsibility for his actions of driving under the influence. councilman ash kalra learne

good morning, marla. >> good morning, laura. it's been one week since bryan stow has been here at sf general. the move back to the bay area bringing him closer to his family. you may recall, stow is from santa cruz. this morning, his family is expected to hold a press conference in front of the hospital giving their reaction to the arrest in this case. just last week, his sister went on camera pleading for those responszable to turn themselves in. since the march 31 attack, there's been an outpouring of support for stow and his family. pizza my heart put on a fund-raiser for him. that was early april. they gave 30% of purchases which totalled $20,000. the san francisco giants and individual giants players donated money. when news of the arrest reached at&t park yesterday, the organization released a statement saying today's arrest in the bryan stow case is welcome news in what's been a difficult time for the stow family. our thoughts and prayers remain with bryan stow and his family. giants manager calling the arrest great news.

i want to check in with marla tellez. in the news room with some breaking news. >> the breaking news is happening in san francisco. good morning to you at home. this morning, a man is dead after a hit and run crash in san francisco. a car hit a 55-year-old man on masonic avenue about 2:30 this morning. they found the car shortly after the crash and arrested the suspect, a 23-year-old man. >>> pg&e is giving the all clear this morning after a gas leak in pleasant hill. the shelter and place order for the area around park boulevard between stephenson drive was lifted before 11:00 last night. they are wrapping up work on the leak. they were called to the scene after people living in the area reported smelling gas and hearing hissing noise. they will not be allowed to charge you more for the improvements they wake. they rejected pg&e's request to start tracking costs associated with gas safety improvements. tracking the costs would have been the first step. >>> the party is over, but not before the cinco de mayo crowds in the

i'm marla tellez. scary moments on a plane at sfo after a customer rushes the cockpit and starts banging on the door. damian trujillo is live at sfo with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, marla. the suspect is in county jail in redwood city. he was involved in the scuffle after american flights landed if san francisco. a 28-year-old man with a yemeni passport ran toward the cockpit and banging yelling during the flight from chicago to san francisco. one of the flight attendants called for back up. another attendant and passenger tackled the suspect. his name is raji. he was carrying a california id. he was take ton the county hospital with minor cuts and arrested on charges of interfering with a flight crew. they are trying to determine if he's mentally competent or belongs to a terrorist group. marla, back to you. >> thank you. >>> 7:27 now. it's a chilly start to your monday morning. is it going to warm up? >> we have a great deal of cloud cover overhead. the clouds will clear out

marla day eis -- marla tellez is live with more. >> reporter: good morning, laura. by now most of us know bryan stow was a paramedic before he was badly beaten at dodgers stadium. he's from santa cruz and this is where he'd come to work. we're at american medical response here in san jose, amr services. the 42-year-old father of two does remain in critical condition at sf general this morning. now, the big development that caught really everyones attention over the weekend is that lapd made an arrest saying that they have suspect number one in custody, the person who allegedly beat stow back on march 31st. but now the question is did they get the wrong guy? on sunday lapd arrested 31-year-old giovanni ramirez after his parole officer identified him as suspect number one. investigators say he is a convicted felon and known gang member but now his mother and an attorney with the family says he has a clear hef c-cut alibi. his mother and 10-year-old daughter saying he was not at dodgers stadium for opening day on march 31st. his daughter saying she was with her dad at

marla tellez is live in san jose with the very latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. now, it's been more than seven hours since last night's deadly shooting. still a lot going on out here as investigators continue to canvass the area. we are in, as you mentioned, we are in east san jose this morning at the corner of checkers and schulte drive. you are looking at the backside of the el rancho verde complex. a man was shot on checkers drive on the other side of the red tape. in the last 15 minutes a tow truck hauled away a white jetta. they believe that was the victim's car. it happened about 11:00 last night. the man found lying in the street. he died shortly after 11:30 at a local hospital. the police spokesman tells me the search continues for the shooter or shooters. he says two 911 calls were made last night. police are interviewing the people who made the calls. beyond that, information is limited. this marks san jose's 20th homicide of the year. not even half way through 2011 yet and we have surpassed last year's to

now for a look at the rest of the day's news i want to check in with marla tellez filling in for me in the studio. you have news out of san bruno. >>> a top washington official will be in the peninsula to oversee work being done on the pipeline. ray lahood will tour san bruno and south san francisco this afternoon. he wants to see the repair work done to the gas line that exploded last september. he will look at the hydrostatic testing. they are pressure testing the pipelines similar to ones in san bruno. meantime, pg&e is warning state regulators to not reduce gas pipe lyline pressure. service to customers will be impacted if the pressure is lowered. the public utilities commission asked them to lower the flow by 20% in ten of the pipelines. it will help prevent another explosion. >>> we know what killed the berkeley man who died while hiking yosemite falls. an autopsy shows the 34-year-old died from a heart attack and not from a fall last week. early reports ingested he may have tripped then hit his head on a rock. he was a popular sioux chef for san francisco's millennium restaurant

i'm marla tellez., three people are dead following a shooting at a san jose state university parking garage. christie smith is live outside the north garage with the very latest. that garage is now open this morning, right, christie? >> reporter: yeah, that's right. it's totally open at this hour but i just got off the phone with a spokesperson from the university. she's on her way here. she says they're still trying to sort out this horrible shooting and also confirm the identities of the victims. but it is believed that one or more could, and i stress could be students. it's also believed that the victims are a mix of male and female. they are waiting to hear from the coroner's office and then they're going to check those identities against student rolls to confirm exactly who the victims were. gunfire filled the north garage about 8:40 last night. in the end, three dead. one believed to be the shooter. university police are saying they do not think this was random or even gang-related. we're expecti
