marla. >> thank you. 5:44.e think they know who killed a young mother and set her body on fire in an oakland neighborhood last week. officers say they have a person of interest in the murder of 21-year-old monica rodas-alfaro. they are not yet releasing the name. they think she was killed somewhere else and then her body was dumped near ivanhoe and shabeau in north oakland in the rock ridge neighborhood. this was shurs mornithursday mo. the ymca in oakland is raising money to help the woman's family pay for a funeral. demonstrators will be out today protesting u.s. airways over the sagging pants arrest. they will be outside the departure area demanding the airline meet with the naacp on the deshon marman case. the 20-year-old university of new mexico football player was arrested last month at the airport after he allegedly ignored requests by airline staff to pull up his pants as he boarded the plane. marman was arrested after police say he refused to leave the plane. the d.a. in san mateo county has dropped ch

back to you, marla. >> thanks, christina. a one-day strike by ticket takers shut down all golden gate ferry service between marin and san francisco this morning. today in the bay's damian trujillo is live in larkspur with the impacts. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. this ferry will be here for the rest of the day. you mentioned those ticket agents, they are on their one-day strike, their contract expired at midnight and they are unhappy over the contract negotiations so they are holding a one-day strike. that means there will be no ferry service as you mentioned, into san francisco from saw is a lee ta or from the larks spur ferry station. it lasts until 10:00 p.m. so the weekend ferry service will resume tomorrow, saturday. but for commuters today the golden gate bus service is adding several buses here and in saucesalito to get the golden ge transit service says it has had good faith negotiations with the union so they are surprised by today's action. we did witness the interaction between one of the workers with t

good morning, marla. >> reporter: good morning. especially over the last month this is a story that has people talking. as you just reported, nbc bay area, we just hung up the phone. they confirmed with nbc bay area that his office has decided not to pursue criminal charges against 20-year-old deshon marman. it was june 15th, almost one month ago when marman was pulled off a us airways plane for allegedly refusing to pull up his sagging pants. marman says because his hands were full of carry-on items he couldn't do as he was told. all the boarded passengers were asked to get off the plane and marman was arrested on suspicion of battery of a police officer, resisting arrest and trespassing. yesterday about 150 people rallied at san francisco city hall to show their support for the university of new mexico football player. the crowd including his mother, who no doubt will be out later, said this yesterday. >> we won't tolerate being judged by our cover. it's not okay. >> reporter: now, all along donald doyle has asked us airways to a

good morning. >> hey, marla. these laws are supposed to protect passengers who paid baggage fees and never get their bags. passengers are upset because it only applies to lost luggage. you never get it. if your bag is just delayed, doesn't get there the same time as you do, even a few days late you still won't get reimbursed for whatever you paid the airline in baggage fees. a lot of people upset. the air transport association says if airlines did have to pay every time a bag was delayed and reimburse passengers the fees they would have to start charging more for everyone. the worst for mishandling baggage in may 2011, american, southwest, continental, alaska and united all airlines, though, had reports of at least 1,000 mishandled bags in may of 2011. and listen to this. the fees that airlines collected for baggage last year, $3.4 billion. that's billion with a "b." >> to think we have to pay for pretty much anything on the flight. thank you for that. >> this morning police in marin city are investigating at lea

good morning, marla. >> reporter: good morning, marla.s of this weekend, you can expect the oakland police department can be reorganized. a little later this morning, police chief anthony batts will be holding a press conference here at police headquarters in oakland, of course, to talk about all the changes. his department has a lot on its plate. it's up against a budget deficit that resulted in cuts already. a year ago 80 officers had to be laid off. right now attrition has the department losing six personnel a month for the next two years. to put this in perspective, 638 are currently on staff compared to 832 back in november '08 so it's down 200 officers in three years. chief batts says because he's losing officers, the department needs to be reshuffled. in a letter to oakland residents, can you find this posted on the oakland police website chief about the atts rise, the department's reorganization is designed to address police staffing short falls and deliver police services under a strengthened model of field supervision. chief bat

thank you, marla tellez live from san jose airport. pretty clear shot there, what about across other parts of the bay area. i want to check the forecast with christina. >> if you are trying to catch a flight out of sfo right now we don't have delays but we have some very, very low cloud ceilings so we'll keep watching that. could see delays. people trying to get in to sfo. you can see we're dealing with an interesting weather pattern out there. high pressure. you see that clockwise rotation, all of the showers moving 18 clockwise fashion. that's monsoonal moisture. it's going to feel sticky, muggy in the south bay and we could see a couple of thunderstorms, a couple of those cumulonimbus clouds developing later today. you can see where the showers are. they haven't made their way in but we're fair game for that. we'll be watching that. looking pretty good. on shore flow is pushing that ridge to the east. so maces in the north bay and everywhere north of the golden gate bridge will likely stay nice and dry. 56 in napa, 54 in oakland, he

marla tellez joins us live with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. talk about an emotional roller coaster for the stow family. they were elated when the lapd made the announcement they made an arrest in the case. well, now this major development. late last night nbc bay area confirming with the lapd they have in fact arrested two new suspects in the bryan stow beating. the question this morning is what does this mean for giovanni ramirez. you will until this point he has been deemed the main suspect in the beating. he was the one lapd arrested in may. ramirez is serving a 10-month prison sentence in san diego for an unrelated parole violation. he was never formally charged with the stow beating. his attorney contending ramirez was never at dodger stadium march 31 t day stow was nearly beaten to death following a giants/dodgers game. >> this is a true lesson of the judicial system in this country, the fact that everyone should be assumed innocent until proven guilty. when i jumped in to the case it was the opposite. >> reporter: for the suspects, l.a.

i'm marla tellez.ike on, strike off. mass confusion for golden gate ferry riders. today in the bay's damian trujillo is live in larkspur to explain what's going on. bottom line, no strike. correct? >> reporter: that's right, marla. the parking lot, though, is half empty at the the larkspur ferry station. first the union calls or issues a news release saying the strike is on for today, then they did not issue a second press release saying the strike was called off. nevertheless, the golden gate ferry service was ready. they were here to fire up the engines just in case at 5:50 this morning the first ferry left the dock. commuters were warned yesterday that ferry service was canceled today. so many used other means to get into the city. it seems the strike that was supposed to be never developed and nobody told the commuters. but the union still has not gone back to us to explain what happened. we're live in larkspur. damian trujillo, now back to you. >> ultimately better news for the commuter. 7:27. we

i'm marla tellez. this morning a driver is in the hospital with severe injuries after slamming into a big rig earlier this morning. the car plowed into the big rig around 2:15 on westbound 580 in livermore just east of spring town. you can see here the car was dragged along the highway before the rig came to a stop. the chp reopened all lanes of that freeway at 4:15 this morning. no word yet on what caused that accident. this morning vallejo police searching for the person who shot and killed the 30-year-old woman at a hotel parking lot. this happened late last night. a hotel guest called 911 about 11:30 last night to report hearing shots fired at the deluxe inn on solano avenue. so far they are not releasing any information about the possible suspect or suspects. >>> now turning to your forecast, we turn to meteorologist christina loren with a nice layer of overcast in the city behind us here. >> actually we're only seeing that fog and low cloud cover over the bridges. we have a beautiful clear start

marla tellez joins us live in san mateo with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. behind me the end result, this is what happen you slam into a fire station. a pile of debris, and then inside you can see there is damage in the interior. i should explain this is station 27 off deanza boulevard. what we're told this is the off ramp from 92 westbound. the driver allegedly took this off ramp, lost control, then crossed the street and slammed into this fire station. we have the video from last night. you can see the white gmc yukon and all of the fire personnel. no firefighters or personnel hurt but the two people in the suv, there were two in that msu. the extent of their injuries not known. this has not been confirmed but what wer hearing it was a female driver, a mother potentially driving drunk and her 17-year-old daughter was the paelg. the 17-year-old grabbed the wheel as she could see her mother was losing control. this is not confirmed but we have put in calls to the san mateo police department. they are investigating this accident. we're waiting to get that inf

i'm marla tellez.d in a fire last year is now out of jail a free woman. the district attorney is dropping man slauslaughter char. he's not saying why. investigators say james and her sister stood outside talking to friends while candles in their apartment sparked a fire that killed four children in april of 2010. three of the children were strapped to strollers when flames ripped through the apartment. james' sister still faces child endangerment and murder charges. >> now a look at your tuesday forecast. looks pleasant. here is christina loren. >> good morning. yeah, where you can see it's pleasant. we have dense fog in the city, low pressure is the reason why. onshore flow fully in effect. that's the case for today. tomorrow, high pressure regains control and that means we'll see the 90s inland wednesday and thursday. today, comfortable, 82 in san jose, 82 in gilroy. 72 in santa cruz. tomorrow we're adding on about 10 degrees on average to today's highs. so santa cruz will hit 80, a perfect beach day
