marla tellez is live outside the court house with the latest developments.ing. >> reporter: good morning, laura. yes, it was back in june that david lewis of east palo alto was shot to death as he was getting out of his car at the hillsdale shopping center in san mateo. now, for more than six months police didn't have any leads on a suspect. that was until december 18th, when they received a phone call from 58-year-old gregory elarms, an acquaintance. yesterday he was here in a courtroom where he pleaded not guilty to a murder haurj that carries a special circumstance allegation that he lay in wait, which essentially means that he was waiting for lewis to arrive at the mall that day in june. the charge carries the possibility of the death penalty if convicted. now, 54-year-old david lewis was a drug abuse counselor, described by his peers as a model citizen who had once served time and only wanted to help others in his situation. in the meantime, elarms is being held without bail and police still don't have a motive for lewis's murder. reporting live in redw

marla tellez is live outside of the marriott at fourth and mission street with a look at what's happening. >> reporter: it started about 11:30 last night when firefighters responded to a call coming from this marriott here on fourth street. several people reported feeling flu-like symptoms. firefighters were dealing with a total of six people. two were taken to the hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning. all six were staying on the fourth or fifth floors. that's where firefighters pinpointed their search and detected elevated levels of carbon monoxide i'd. they zeroed in and it checked out okay. the bizarre element here is they did not find a source here. published reports say these people are flight attendants with singapore airlines and they all worked in the same plane recently. about 2:30 this morning, firefighters gave the hotel the all clear and cleared the scene. at no point was the hotel evacuated. the investigation has been turned over to the hotel engineers who are monitoring the situation. they have their own system to detect carbon monoxide. as for the two people taken to the

marla tellez is live along the embarcadero below 880 with what drivers need to look for. marla?e are on embarcadero this morning. right behind me is fifth avenue. we are below 880. the construction you see here and equipment is all part of the fifth avenue improvement project that got started in the summer of 2009. about a year and a half ago. the whole point is to retro fit the bridge portion of 880. here's what's happening today. from 7:00 this morning until 4:00 this afternoon, fifth avenue between embarcadero and east eighth street will be closed. the detour signs are posted for drivers. this should only affect northbound 880 traffic today and drivers are being advised to stay away. do not take the embarcadero exit. instead you are advised to take the oak street off-ramp. once you do that, signs will be posted directing you to your original route. southbound traffic should not be affected today. here's a background on the project. the fifth avenue bridge was built in 1949. it has endured 60 years of wear and tear. the construction will strengthen and widen that part of the b
