marla tellez is live near the summit to show us. good morning. it is pretty soggy out there. >> reporter: good morning, laura. it is getting nasty out here. the rain is coming down. it is windy. it is pretty foggy, too, up at the summit. traffic seems to be moving along without any problems. let me step out of the way and you can see northbound highway 17 traffic. it is moving along. we have made our way up and down. we haven't seen any problems. no accidents just yet, so that's good news. i actually just hung up with the national weather service and they tell me the santa cruz mountains are expected to get as much as 3/4 an inch of rain today. this has caltrans crews monitoring the roadways this morning. we have gone down to scotts valley along 17 and talked to early morning drives there. one guy who lives in capitola is on his way to san jose and tells me he's from michigan. this is not a whole lot to deal with for him, but still he is driving defensively this morning. that's good advice for all drivers. and last weekend the santa cruz mountain

as "today in the bay's" marla tellez tells us, it is about wearing red. >> reporter: brent, i see you memo. brent, february is the american heart association's go red for women month, which means all month long you are encouraged to wear some red to shine a spotlight on heart disease. now, that is the number one killer of men and women in america. stroke is the number three cause of death in this country. and a heart attack kills a woman every single minute in the u.s. now, what's just as troubling, the heart association says only half of women they surveyed would call 911 if they thought they were having a heart attack. and many women don't even recognize several key symptoms. so today the department of health and human services is launching a first of its kind national campaign. it is called "make the call don't miss a beat." this means at the first sign of a heart attack call 911. so here's a look at the symptoms. number one, discomfort in the center of your chest which lasts more than a few minutes or that goes away and then comes back. two, general discomfort or pain in the arm,

marla tellez has a look at the prices for us. >> reporter: good morning, brent.ning to look like a no-win situation. we are at the 76 station right at the corner of brokaw and first near the san jose airport. and if you stop by to see us this morning to fill up, you are going to be paying $3.59 as the sign says behind me for regular all the way up to $3.89 for a gallon of premium. the average right now for san jose is $3.45 a gallon. that is 52 cents more than one year ago. the national average is $3.12. welsh guess what? we could be paying the dreaded $4 a gallon as soon as april. this is according to gas analysts at gasbuddy.com. the recent turmoil in the middle east is startly partly to blame. also, as i reported a few weeks ago, the valero refinery is closed for maintenance and other refineries in the bay area are also scheduled to temporarily close for similar prompts. that only drives up the price at the pump. here's a catch 22. if you are thinking about ditching the car and hopping on caltrain, for instance, to save some money, that may not be a good optio
