marlene martin to talk about your hospital's addiction care team. us. >> good morning. thank you for having me here. >> you take your work on to the streets of san francisco. tell me what you see. >> our san francisco general is the safety and hospital for san francisco and we take care of anyone who walks through the door including many patients who use drugs. we are seeing the patients who are coming from the streets, people coming from other places, housed or unhoused. we bring addiction care to the bedside with an interdisciplinary team. >> meth was around when i was in high school, back in the '90s. how was today's meth different and how is it so deadly? >> i think that's what we're trying to figure out. we know it's a lot stronger than what we had before. we also know more people are using meth. we don't necessarily know why. it's really sending the body into overdrive. and we see older people who are using meth and dying with meth in their system. we see that they're having heart attacks, cardiac arrest, or having strokes. and we see young pe

make a lot of tough decisions come if you try to make it a family business and at times your wife, marlene who seems by the way like a saint, you wanted to hopefully have some of your -- you've got your brother working there and hope to have your children working there, but it sounded like often you have to make tough decisions you had to part ways with some of these people being partners and in some cases never spoke to them again. what was that like for you and how did you feel about that? >> it's terrible but it's one of the things you have to go through sometimes. i'd like to talk about tim mcreynolds for a second. he was right out of law school when we had our first difficulties with the securities and exchange commissions. because he had a lot of confidence in himself and because he had a unique way of trying to solve this problem, he's seeing us from going out of business. now this is an attorney only in business as an attorney for a couple of months, who had the ability to really save our business and keep us running. a few years later, he changed the whole industry by thinking dif
