one thing we haven't really touched on except to mention marlon brando and james dean that someone wants to talk about is film, movies, what americans saw on the big screen and the way the cold war influenced that, typically the ideological struggle in dr. straing love in which the cold war was front and center. in what other ways did the cold war, besides the most obvious maybe affect what americans saw on the big screen in movie theaters. >> just like television, the cold war shapes what can be presented. that's why a film like dr. strange love is so incredible. you know, because it is such a critique. right? you show to it students today and they really don't know what to make of it. but the kind of over the top satire tone of it which, you know, if you think about it, is some of what we get in the way that politics gets translated by colbert and all those other daily shows. some of that would be our version or the way that certain gifs from popular culture take on new meaning. but that's what dr. strange love is doing. it is so absurd and so over the top that it can actually get away
