[pensive music] in 1996, i was head of the solar physics team at nasa's marshall space flight center in huntsville, alabama. one thing that was going on at marshall space flight center was trying to fix hubble images. we had computer techniques that could basically put the image back together. take a star that looked blurry and turn it back into a star. we had taken a lot of the blurry hubble images and made them quite presentable. the fbi was aware we were doing all of this. and shortly after the bombing, the center director at marshall space flight center had been contacted by the fbi in atlanta, asking for help clearing up the image of the bomber. myself and my colleague paul meyer ended up really working on it. we knew that this was really important, that we were doing something that would perhaps save people's lives, if you catch him before he does it again. the first thing they gave us was a video from the night of the bombing of the backpack. it was very dark, hard to see. remember, this is 1996, when video was a vhs for consumers. notoriously poor quality. even the best one we
