just last night here on the steps behind us martha mcsally took shots at kristen sinema. she used to be much more on the left, but since entering congress back in 2012 has gone very much down the road as sort of a blue dog democrat. we've had conversation es with folks, republicans and independents, and we have had countless conversations with individuals that suggested they are frustrated at martha mcsally's lack of independence from president trump. and they say they believe that kirsten sinema will be sort of in the mold of the late john mccain. >> the state governor race

what we saw with martha mcsally and her dog, that is the old martha mcsally. martha mcsally in 2016 was the pre-trump martha mcsally who in 2016 refused to endorse donald trump, denounced him over the "access hollywood" and to this day has not said whether she voted for him in 2016, but in 2018 when she was in a competitive republican primary had to embrace donald trump in order to get through the primary, and that has nothing to do with her vote on the affordable care act, which all republicans were for tearing it down. but it left her in this awkward position where she had been kind of a main stream republican, had to pull trump close in order to win the primary, and what she ended up being was someone who seemed inconsistent, who seemed all over the place, and who ended up campaigning in this very kind of cautious, sort of undefined self-contradictory way, and now that she's freed of her obligation to donald trump, she's back to being a charming lady on her couch with her dog. >> decency returns. we now have to go to florida. joining us now is msnbc chief l

republican martha mcsally has conceded the senate race in arizona, the one that she thought she won.he new senator from that state will be kyrsten sinema. mick sally lead on election night but a surge of late counted votes carried her to the lead. lisa boothe has been following this race since its earliest stages and joins us tonight. lisa boothe, if you could bottom line what happened in this election that martha mcsally and everyone watching thought she won but now she has conceded she's not going to be the new senator, what happened? >> the associated press has called the race. she has conceded. i think the problem largely looks like this county. represents about 60% of the state's. population. republican leaning but kyrsten sinema has actually been leading there. that's where these new votes came in from tonight that really put her overt the top, which is why the associated press ended up calling the race. however, i would also think about the fact that martha mcsally might have a chance of trying to get elected as a senator in arizona looking at 2020 because remember senator kyl

he did mention martha mcsally at that rally over the weekend. she's great, arizona, he is coming to cleveland, a city you know very very well, and a state you know well. what is the thing you're going to be watching for tomorrow night here in ohio? >> tomorrow night i want to see how the statewide candidates do? i mean, sherrod brown looks like he's going to do well. jim ranacey hasn't run the best campaign. brown has outraised him, polling way ahead. the governor's race is going to be interesting here, and a key indicator of where the state is. you look at the 2016 election, and this state went for donald trump by 8 percentage points. that's not really indicative of a swing state, but if, you know, you look at the polls, they are neck and neck. you have a couple congressional races that could be competitive. by design they're not supposed to be because of gerrymandering, you could see a resurgence or a shift in where democrats are voting. >> ohio one to watch, seth, thank you for coming on our road set here today. i appreciate it. up next, we a

let's turn to vaughn hillyard in prescott, arizona, where martha mcsally just finished an event.ughn, you heard from republicans and those who are flipping. what is the mood overall? >> this has long been a republican state and the question is how many individuals will the democrat kirsten sinema be able to bring over? it's split in the state, about a third republican, a third democrat, a third independent and martha mcsally needs to hold on and amp up that republican support here. we were at an event where she had about 200 folks here and what she's been looking to do with t and what the republican party has been trying to do is take down kirsten sinema. they've put millions on the television eairwaves in order t hammer home the message that kirsten sinema is a liberal instead of the blue dog democrat she's been known to become in congress, one important note is the green party candidate in the state dropped out and nbc news polling had the spread between sinema and mcsally at a six point advantage for sinema without the green party candidate in the mix. with the green party can
