when i first talked to martha ryan about it. i know martha very well. i served on the homeless directors for the prenatal program for six years and i believe in anything they take on always changes people's lives. i have seen it with my own eyes. i find that to be work that needs done on an every day basis in the city. i want to thank the departments. paula, thank you for your be excellent presentation and all of the community benefit organizations. food banks, meals on wheels for doing this extremely important work. the prevalence in food -- insecurity in one of the world's wealthiest cities is unacceptable. the income equality is unacceptable. when we think about income equality and you look at 40 years ago c.e.o.s made 40 times their workers now it is 400 times the workers. it is unacceptable the mothers can't feed the kids, can't feed themselves when they are pregnant. we have to do something about it. i know there are action businesses in the long and short term. i want to begin by asking our budget and legislative analyst office to do an assessmen

my name is martha ryan, i am the founder and executive director of the homeless prenatal program here, in san francisco. i have been working with homeless pregnant women, family -- families with young children for 30 years. our mission is to end the cycle of childhood poverty, and break the cycle of family homelessness. what you need to break the cycle of family homelessness, is housing. housing alone is not enough. families need opportunities to be able to get education come and get job training. we are partnering with the developer on this project from dogpatch, and we cannot be happier to do so, to have housing available to our families, and allow them to get deep subsidies, very low rent, affordable housing, and to be able to get the families to have opportunities to get education. to have jobs so that they can do things, so that they can provide for themselves and be sustainable on their own. it is something that nobody is really doing now. we are looking forward to this. we are looking forward to being able to have our families, in a safe environment and a beautiful environment.
