when he begins speaking we'll bring it to you. marthapentagon set to announce a historic change to the u.s. military than that will happen this afternoon. they will lift the ban on women serving in combat. the move will open up many jobs in previously all-male units, including special ops and areas like that. right now women make up some 14% of the 1.4 million active service members in this country. let's talk about this with two great guests for in subject. we have kt mcfarland who served as deputy assistant secretary of defense under president reagan and a fox news national security accident. jack keane, former top chief, and a fox news military analyst. what do you think about this? >> i served for 37 1/2 years, i was always a strong advocate for women in the military. and by that i mean in nontraditional skills. and the fact of the matter is i draw a line here because this is about direct ground combat. this is about infantry units. and this has been studied for years, martha. close to 30 years as a matter of fact, by our military, a

who better than to sit down and speak with than martha stewart.. but first, bank of america announcing a settlement with fannie mae over mortgage repurchases. it will buy back $10 billion in loans from fannie mae. actually, i thought it was -- you know what, let's get the actual lowdown here from kayla. she's more on the overall settlement itself and the numbers. >> several positive headlines for bank of america this morning. no doubt that fannie mae settlement is the biggest for investors who feared the price tag could be much bigger. as it stands, $10.3 billion is what bank of america owes fannie mae. the $3.6 billion cash payment basically reimburses fannie mae for losses it already suffered. b of a was among some 14 banks that were part of a $10 billion settlement with the occ for wrongful foreclosures. a good portion of that settlement is roughly $1 billion. bank of america is getting rid of $300 billion in mortgage servicing rates, continuing to chip away at that portfolio of delinquent and, therefore, expensive loans. the big question is wh

speak. the rules go into effect one year from now. martha: we'll see how effective they are. stuart, thank you very much. stuart varney, fbn coming up. bill: we have brand new jobs numbers from the labor department 40 minutes ago. for the week last week that number rising by 4,000 americans to 371,000. that is the highest number we've seen now in five weeks. we'll see how the markets react to that coming up at 9:30, 23 minutes from now. since december of 2007 though, weekly jobless claims have stayed above 300,000. spiked in early 2009 on the chart as you see. economists say that weekly claims must consistently fall below 375,000, shown by that yellow line on the screen right there, to indicate that the job market is strong enough to lower the unemployment rate. this past fall weekly jobless claims dipped below that line. today's report of 371 shows slightly below that line again. well under that to bring that unemployment number down. 7.8% now. martha: john brenneman could be in for a battle as president obama's pick for the central intelligence agency. lawmakers looking to
