devorah, major jack hirschman, diane di prima, alejandro murguia, kim shuck, and of course, our current poet laureate, who is a really a city treasure and a city native tonga . eisen-martinunfortunately, over the last few years you may know that we have lost four of our city's poet laureates, and that's been a tragedy. but we are prepared and hoping to be able to select our ninth poet laureate sometime very soon. the process to select a poet laureate and any of our laureates that we have done is a public nomination process. of course, we solicit the public to nominate anyone who is a native san franciscan who is a poet with a published body of work to be submitted that a poet can nominate themselves, but usually it's a community nomination. and we work with many of our local literary communities to solicit those nominations. they also have to have a vision of what they will do with the role of poet laureate and many of our poets, our past poets laureate have done wonderful things with our school children teach bringing poetry into the schools, encouraging community participation and encourage senior participation in creating poetry and just making us a more literate comm
