let's talk about this with marty walsh. mr. secretary, good morning and thanks for the time. >> thank you for having me today. >> so, i wonder if the biden administration is happy to see the labor market cooling a bit relatively speaking compared to the last 12 months because the fed needs that actually. they need slower job growth to get a handle on this inflation? >> well, yeah, i'm not sure -- well maybe people are defining this as cooling. i'm looking at it as a time where we've had incredible job growth in the last year. this year we still have good job growth. we've added about 440,000 jobs per month if you do an average. certainly this report, 263 is a good strong report. there is still the opportunity to get more people back to work. i think we're adjusting to what would be somewhat of a pre-pandemic time because we're not going to be able to put up 600, jobs number per month. but within the report we're seeing the health care sector fully recover and gains in the manufacturing sector which is great and the job particip

. >> ben, labor secretary marty walsh addressed the report on msnbc, here's what he said. >> the participation rate dropped a little bit, but it was high last month. i'm not concerned about that when you look at the long-term impact. i feel good where the economy is headed as far as people going back to work. >> is this a good report for the white house? >> it is on the headline. 263,000 is a good number. so that's positive. low unemployment rate is obviously good for the white house. unfortunately, some of that was some people leaving the labor force. you would rather see unemployment go down because more people are coming back into the labor force. it's less good economically for the white house as it impacts the fed as robin was talking about, the next rate hike in november still going to be 75 basis points, another half point hike at the end of the year because they're not seeing the slowing they want to see either. and the amount of hiring or wage gains which is around 5% a year above the fed's 2% target. it just means more tightening from the fed and the risk of going too far, too fast,

i am sitting down with labor secretary marty walsh and i have to, say issues that americans have on theirrm

i recently spoke with marty walsh and i asked him about the link between immigration reform and laterant you to take a listen. >> i spoke at one of the chamber of congress is in florida and i talked about the need for immigration reform. and that people in that room where nodding their heads. we really need to look at comprehensive immigration reform. unfortunately, it has become a political issue and historically, it has not been. if you ask any major business in the u.s., you asked them what they are concerned about, it is employment. the biggest single threat to our economy in 2023 in 2024 is the fact that we don't have comprehensive immigration reform and we need it. immigration is about our economy and it is a way to -- create pathways to legal immigration into our country -- >> congressman, i am wondering what is your reaction to the labor secretary's comments? >> he is absolutely right. we have a labor shortage in this country. everywhere you go, restaurants, hotel, offices, people are complaining about not finding enough workers. and one of the reasons we have so much chaos at

labor secretary marty walsh. >> this report says a couple things. if t shows us in a specific way that the hospital industry is fully recovered since pre-pandemic levels. manufacturing goes beyond pandemic levels. if you look at the racial breakdown of the racial unemployment numbers, we have seen a drop in different categories. and the latino unemployment rate is the lowest recorded in history. we're seeing as people come back to work, it's equitable, meaning people are coming back to work. it also shows we have more work to do. the participation rate dropped a little bit, but it was higher last month. i'm not too concerned when you lock at the long-term impacts of what these reports will be. i feel good where the economy is headed as far as people going back to work. >> i want to kind of refocus on what you were just talking about about the latino unemployment and the african-american unemployment. clearly, 3.8% is just really strong. 5.8%, less strong. what do you see here when you see this disparity? >> i see
