what marvelous people you are. you are the american dream builders. i have a very nice apartment. i'm extremely proud of my kitchen. fr double faults, not including the stove and refrigerator. i can plug in my toaster, by crock pot, use the blender, use the electric can opener, and also, my high blood pressure kit, i can plug that in, too. i have a custom-made wooden cabinets with tons of space, with a marble counter. right out of better om and gardens. it is enjoyable tclean it, to keep it clean. the garden is another beautiful caring hands. let me talk about management. management is a solid team of smiling faces. it makes one feel like working there muste fun. everyone is knowledgeable, helpful, courteous, problem- solving professionals. they have master their areas of expertise. i've been so inspired that i gave a fancy party called staff appreciation day last year. people showed their respect by giving testimony to the staff members. there is only one thing that is sad there -- there are 100 apartments, and in this community, only have eight english-speaking people to talk to

[applause] well, what a great lineup, and we've got folks with every possible perspective on comic books here. just by way of background, there is something called the comics code that is on comic books, most of the comic books i grew up reading-- many of which were illustrated by carmine-- had the comics code authority approval on it, which basically said this comic book has been sanitized for your protection. every comic book we read as kids was censored in some way for our own good so we would not grow up warped in any way, and all of this was inspired by a guy named dr. fredric wertham, who wrote a really influential book called seduction of the innocent in 1954, and he suggested, among other things, that comic books were a negative-- had a negative impact on kids, that it encouraged juvenile delinquency and put bad thoughts in their heads-- kind of--many of the same arguments you kind of hear

they just put on an absolutely marvelous book festival, thousands upon thousands of people. of course here you are in this packed room. it is just such a wonderful event, and we are both deeply honored to be here and be a part of it. we are just going to have an informal chat and talk about p.j.'s work, and then we will open it up for questions at the end. let me start by saying that as a biographer myself, someone who thought that i actually knew how to write and have some potential to be a writer, after reading your vanderbilt book as well as your jesse james book, but especially, i think, the vanderbilt book, i have to now go into therapy.
