i'm wendy gillette in for anne-marie green. southwest airlines expects minimal disruptions as we head into the new year's holiday weekend. the airline has canceled about 40 flights so far today after scrapping more than 13,000 since the meltdown began last thursday. southwest also vowed to reimburse stranded travelers. the biden administration has threatened to penalize the airline if it does not follow through. jarred hill is in new york. jarred, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, wendy. the secretary of transportation has threatened southwest with tens of thousands of dollars in fines per violation per affected passenger if they don't provide proper compensation for all the folks who are stranded by what many are calling a system wide meltdown for southwest. today is the first real test if they're ready to get things back on track. some passengers in dallas flashed a smile while making their way through the airport. but the misery felt by an estimated 1 million travelers whose flights were canceled or delayed this week
