and mary ellen o'toole, former fbi profiler and former fbi special agent.g here. first, i'm sorry to even put you on the spot. can you tell from this angle what kind of gun that is? what kind of semi -- it looks like a semiautomatic rifle of some sort. >> the monitor is a little small. can't quite make it out. >> tell us the fbi obviously involved in the investigation here. what is the fbi likely doing right now? >> right now, they're trying to find out everything they can about the shooter, his identity, friends, associates, co-workers, family members, anybody that could shed some light on what the motivation was for doing this, whether or not he sent out e-mails or text messages to others saying he was going to do it and why. and whether he might have been involved or had help from other people. so they're trying to piece everything together about that person from e-mail records, from phone records, business records, credit card records, everything that they can get as soon as they can get it to try to assess the motivation here, which would then play int

moment. >>> let's bring in our guests, former fbi special agent dawn clark, clint van zandt, mary ellen o'toole and joining us on the news line, former senior adviser at the department of homeland security, bradley schreiber. all of you thank you very much for joining us. mary ellen i want ask you in this situation we try to ascertain based on what we know whether or not this is an act of domestic violence, whether it's terrorism, whether the gunman was working alone or in concert with others, or whether it was like a current or former worker maybe disgruntled for some particular reason. which of the above or maybe another does it feel like to you as a former fbi profiler? >> well at this point it would be too premature to say. they have to look at his background, where he comes from, who his associates are. there is a lot of information they need to obtain before they can say with any certainty if these were targeted victims or if they were victims of opportunity. my sense it when you have this case with people going around even for one targeted victim, a spouse, ex-spouse or a boss there are

to help me get to the bottom of that, former fbi profiler mary ellen o'toole.od to see you. >> thank you. >> so in your experience, you know, what causes someone to just snap if that's, indeed, the case here? >> i don't believe that he snapped whatsoever. and there's a difference between the triggering event and motivation. so the triggering event could have been something that occurred recently -- the loss of something, the loss of a job, the loss of a partner. it could be broader, and just angry at his life, the way it was going. but the motivation would be long time and coming. that didn't just happen the other day. there are actually two different issues here that we're looking at. and his motivation would have been, from my experience, more of this kind of global view of the world, where the world is his enemy. it's not just tsa. it's not just the fbi or the irs. i think once the investigation is complete, they'll see a much more global view that he had of the world. >> and it is early on in the investigation, because we heard from investigators that even

i spoke to mary ellen o'toole, a former senior profiler for the fbi. and i want you to listen to what she had to say about whether this really is or is not about the tsa. >> my sense would be that he got into this through the internet as opposed to personal interactions with government agencies where he was treated impolitely or treated badly. and again, the thought process for someone who decides my life's not going well. i'm angry at everybody. i blame everybody for what's happened to me. that thinking process takes a long time to develop. it doesn't just happen two weeks before the incident. >> and one of the things they're pointing to is this terrible tragedy, shooting and killing the tsa officer and wounding other tsa personnel. but then he moves on. he moves deeper into the airport. he could have stayed and very tragically shot at other very clearly marked tsa personnel, but he doesn't. he moves on. he moves into the airport. the feeling is that this is the kind of motivation and behavior that investigators are going to be looking at to try and f
