was not going to be history denied and what we saw tonight was kamala harris taking the stage to mary j. bligepearls and dressed in sufficie sufficient jet white and preparing to serve as the second most powerful person in the country. she mentioned congressman john lewis in her opening words talking about democracy being something that we must struggle for, that we have to fight for but that that can be a fight that does have joy in it and she certainly looked joyful as she took that stage tonight and frankly many people watching saw what looks to them not to just be the future of the democratic party but the future of the country. she addressed directly the role of women, particularly of black women talking about the 19th amendment, talking about the 55 years since the voting rights act, standing on the shoulders of the black women who made this moment possible for her and for the country. it was something that i could tell having covered her for the better part of a year and a half that she was deeply moved by. she invoked her mother who came to this country at the and of 19 saying that she
