also joining us republican strategist mary matalin. guys, thanks very much for coming in.er ever come back politically? will there be a second act for him? >> ever is a long, long time. he's got to repair his marriage, you know, everyone who knows his wife, and i do, feels heartbroken for her. but ever is a long time. if he can repair his marriage and repair himself, but that's the right process, right? i will draw the contrast, this is really important, to united states senator david vitter, a republican who ran on family values and caught on a list of the d.c. madam's list of customers. he never came clean. he never answered questions. cnn is not camped outside his office, but david vitter, who committed a crime apparently, what weiner did is creepy, but apparently not a crime. what vitter did is a crime, and he's still in the senate with no resignation, no therapy, no nothing, not even any accountability for his actions. >> he got himself reelected, mary. you're there. >> well, i love how the democrats love to change the subject on this. paul hit the nail on the head. v

joining us is jamal simmons here in washington and the republican strategist, mary matalin.mal, let me start with you. the abc news poll, the president lost the bump he got right after the killing of bin laden back in may. his approval rating was 56% and now it's down to 47%. his disapproval has gone from 47% in may down to 49%. how is the president handling its job? it seems like bin laden is ancient history. >> he's very important for the national security picture but the jobs picture is just devastating. it really is hurting the president. these are bad numbers but we're so far out from election day, the president does have time to recover. i think he's got to do three things. he's got to get back on message and talk about winning the future, a victory on the debt ceiling and then he's got to get some jobs. i'm not sure what the government has left to be able to pull that off, but until we get more jobs moving, it's going to be tough for the president to move some of these numbers. >> and as bad as that overall number is, he is handling his job, when it comes to the econo

jane velez-mitchell host of hln's "issues with jane velez-mitchell" and cnn political analyst mary matalin thing? >> well, you played senator reid and he is not doing the right thing for the party or the colleagues or his wife who many democrats and republicans like. she has to go to work everyday still in the state department, and as you heard the voters say, common sense suggests he is not doing the right thing for his own health and welfare. the guy has a problem. t this is not a cheating thing, but this is something as clearly not right when a newly wed is sending pornographic pictures of himself to total strangers and lying about it for a week, there is something that would suggest that he should take a couple of weeks off and think about his own health and his wife. >> and jane, let me bring you in here, does it matter that he didn't have any physical contact at least what he is saying, only the pictures? is. >> absolutely not. put yourself in his wife's shoes. if this were happening and your significant other did this, would you consider it cheating or a betrayal? of course. and in
