maryalice parks, let's start with you. so what is president biden's agenda looking like with you in the new year with congress? >> everything in washington is about to change, we're about to see that divided government and the white house knows that they have to feel that out and see what's possible to get done working with republicans. the reality is they're going to be playing a lot of defense, we know that republicans have promised on day one to launch investigations into president biden's border policies, the withdrawal from afghanistan, even investigations into hunter biden, the president's own son and his personal finance. >> and maryalice, given the gridlock here, what are the chances of something, a big issue actually getting done? >> reporter: that's a good question. like i said, they have to sort of see what republicans are willing to work with them on. we know the president would like to write into law more voting rights protections, more protections for reproductive health care, access to abortion. he wants to

abc's maryalice parks is at the white house with more.rning to you, maryalice. >> reporter: eva, good morning. once again the white house is correcting the record and revealing that they have, in fact, found even more classified pages than previously disclosed. on thursday morning the white house put out a statement confirming that a small number of documents have been found at the president's home in wilmington in the garage and just this week on wednesday night one additional document had been found in a room adjacent to the garage. now the special counsel to the president, richard sauber, is telling us that, in fact, hours after that was released, an additional five pages with classified markings were found in that adjacent room next to the garage. now, the discovery of these new five pages was made apparently while sauber who has security clearance was with officials from the department of justice transferring that one page that had been found by the president's lawyers. now, bob bauer, biden's personal lawyer, put out a statement yes

abc's white house correspondent maryalice parks is joining us now. what are your sources telling you tonight? >> reporter: the white house is declining to comment, but sources tell us the big shake-up is coming to what has been a remarkably stable staff. we're told the exact timing is still not set, and it is not uncommon for chiefs of staff to actually only last about a year. the demands of the job are just so high. but as you said, ron klain has been one of president biden's closest advisers for years. he was actually first biden's chief of staff in 2009 when he was vice president. and as for who will replace him, biden is known for not going far from a very small group of trusted advisers. some names being floated? steve ricchetti, who was another chief of staff in the obama years for biden. he is currently a counselor to the president. jeff zients, who was a cochair for the biden transition and has had several other senior roles here. and the timing, i will say, is just not that surprising. it is after the midterms, at the halfway point, and it's

maryalice, a lot riding on this trip for president biden. >> reporter: that's right, janai.e stakes. the president has been hammered for having not yet traveled to the border, mostly from republicans, but also from a few democrats. we know he'll be joined by the secretary of homeland security, members of congress, local leaders. his team will meet with custom and border protection officers, tour the biggest port of entry there in el paso, as well as a migrant center. this trip comes as we're seeing record apprehensions, but as republicans now in control of the house have made clear they plan to launch investigations into border operations and keep this issue absolutely front and center. >> maryalice, this is the first leg. after texas, it's on to the mexico and the president's really got his work cut out for him there. >> reporter: he goes on from texas to mexico city tonight, two days in mexico city. he'll meet with the mexican president and canadian prime minister. mexico's cooperation in managing the border is absolutely critical here. one big question, can the president
