this time in columbia, maryland, at a mall, howard county mall in columbia, maryland. we have with us on the phone evan bettis. he's just justice correspondent. the police, evan, very, very clear in saying they don't have a motive yet, but you are hearing other wise. what do you have? >> well, miguel, again, we've been, as we've been reporting all afternoon, this is a very preliminary information from the scene. one of the reasons why we're rrting it is so people can understand a little bit. obviously these things are always scary no matter what the situation is, what the motive is. if you're in the mall and there's shooting, obviously everyone's scared. but i find it interest that the howard county police said they were not ready yet to confirm or to say what the motive is. our reporting from what we've been told from people briefed on the investigation is that the preliminary indications are just based on what they see, was that they believe it might have been a domestic dispute or domestic situation that led to this shooting. obviously there's a lot of work left for

i think that even southern maryland might get in on that action. the current watches and warnings, this pink is a winter storm warning in effect. the purple is a winter weather advisory. as i mentioned, southern maryland is under that advisory starting tonight, lasting 26:00 tomorrow morning, including st. mary's and calvert counties. there is a possibility of seeing even one to three inches. d.c. might get on the action, a little bit. it stays cloudy for the rest of the day, today. through the late evening hours, after sunset and the evening commute, it settles down into calvert county. that will continue through midnight. all of this will move off to the east, heavy snow on the eastern shore of maryland, as well as accumulation. these are just simulations, but it gives you a good idea. if you see any snow in washington, d.c., it might be a dusting, if that. another computer simulation that shows threete by inches in the d.c. metro area. something that we will watch carefully, but i think this will be mainly a southern storm that is a quick mover.

you can see that's for loudoun county, frederick county in both maryland and virginia and throughout west virginia and the shenandoah valley of virginia and all that is from right now, monday 6 p.m., to tuesday at 6 p.m. our current temperature in d.c. is 32 degrees, but you can see just how much colder it is to our west. these are not wind chill values. these are actual air temperatures. it's negative 1 in pittsburgh, negative 2 in detroit and chicago absolutely frigid with a temperature of 12 degrees below 0. we won't see negative numbers here, but when you factor in the wind chill, it will feel like it's in the negative digits, 0 to 10 our overnight low and it will be dangerously cold with that wind chill. i'm expecting wind chills to be as low as negative 20 in a couple locations which could cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes. coming up i'll tell you when we finally see relief from the cold in the first alert seven- day forecast. derek, back to you. >>> we should note we're already getting in closings and delays for tomorrow. fairfax, culpeper, loudoun county, prince will

, at the mall at columbia in maryland.you're looking at aerial pictures right now of the parking lots because every now and then you see a steady stream of people being allowed to exit the mall. those people, employees and patrons who were inside the mall at the shooting that police are saying right now there is not yet completely secured the scene of that mall. there continue to be some people inside, because they found themselves in secure areas. they tried to seek shelter exactly where they were. so police are methodically now going through, interviewing people to make sure that they indeed have no other active shooters on the scene, but police saying very confidentially during the last hour that they believe that this was carried out by the hands of a single shooter, and the single shooter is among the three that are dead. another press briefing will be coming from howard county police at 4:00 eastern time. an hour and a half from now. >>> meantime, our justice correspondent evan perez, crime and justice correspondent
