the marysville school district lockdown procedures will remain in effect at marysville pilchuck. we will continue in cooperation with law enforcement. so this is the first that we're hearing from the school district. obviously trying to get this message out to parents, the emergency situation which we're seeing unfold here 11,000 students in the school district, 2,000 students in this high school. so they're trying to get this communication out there. some of our affiliates have also been reporting they're sharing that statement, they're also letting us know that they were first getting tweets indicating that the shooting happened. at 10:45 pacific time. just about an hour, a little less than that, a mother who spoke to one of our affiliates, kiro, confirming early reports we heard. she's being told the shooter may have opened fire near the cafeteria. that's something we're hearing from affiliate komo that the shootings may have taken place in the cafeteria. komo reporting two students shot, another affiliate of ours now suggesting that the number of injured is higher than that.

we heard that from the marysville pd. we don't know how quickly the school resource officer was able to intervene in this thing. you have seen -- you see the map of the school there in the center of the wall, on the left side you see the map of the area, on the right side the pictures of the school, and in the middle this sprawling campus. football field is obviously 100 yards long and the school is maybe twice that. so if you have a school resource officer in there depends on where he is and how quickly they would be able to get there. certainly police arrived in droves, almost immediately, and they had been streaming in for a long time. first lunch had not gun there as far as we can tell. if you look at their schedule of things around there, first lunch doesn't begin until a little before 11:00. the first call on this was at 10:45 a.m. pacific daylight time. so must have happened in the short mints before that. it's our snubbing that students called 9-1-1 and i've seen agent or ten reports every student was on a phone.

friends and loved ones held a memorial vigil in marysville last night. the emotional service took place at a church that's nearby the high school. hundreds of people prayed and sang songs in tribute to the victims and their families. we learned last night that the gunman has been identified as jaylen fryberg. he was recently crowned the school's homecoming prince. investigators say he shot and killed one student and wounded five others. and then turned the gun on himself. three of the victims are in critical condition. another is stable. we are working to find out the condition of the fifth student. according to witnesses, frey berg recently argued with a classmate about a bring-up with a girl. late last night the police gave us an update on their investigation. >> there's still a lot of work to do. we want to make sure that we do this right. we want to make sure that we have all of the right answers. that's what we're going to do by taking our time, doing it thoroughly and providing information only after it is complete. >> police say two of the wounded
