i think most of us believe that here in massachusetts, at least in eastern massachusetts, the thing that started the arrival of covid-19 was that big biogenic conference. in western mass, we are pretty sure someone from outside western mass, we just do not know where, started the original set of cases in western mass. if you look at the data nationally, it is a big country and there are a lot of different things going on in a lot of different places. and one of the reasons why the federal government has talked about moving assets, especially ventilators, around from one state to another is because most of the modeling they are looking at implies that different parts of the country are going to get hit at different times. there is not going to be one national surge for the united states of america. there will be a whole series of surges that will take place. they will be based on monday virus first showed up in certain places and what people did deal with the consequences associated with planning for it. i said before that i really appreciate, i am going to look right at the camera when i

late last night another shipment arrived in massachusetts. fema notified us this morning we will be receiving one million pieces of personal protective equipment including 650,000 260,000 six. officials are in the process of inspecting and counting this inventory and will work but we could attribute this gear to frontline workers once the inventory count and inspection is completed. as i said many times before, i am incredibly grateful for the generosity and support of the family who helped us bring that shipment home. getting enough gear not just here in massachusetts, across the country has been a challenge and it will continue to be until supply chains adjust to the new normal. as we announced yesterday, we are posting a daily summary of personal protective equipment distribution which is available gov/covid19. for several weeks you have heard us talk about the work that has been done with our command center to determine exactly what the plan and the bed capacity that we need here in massachusetts to manage our way through the surge. that

so when the governor of massachusetts said he needed troops to support the work for the government, the war office says okay. that is fine. but it creates other problems. so when the first two regiments sail into boston harbor in the fall of 1768, we see troops marching into the heart of boston which is his only kind of what happened because when they come to boston harbor the governor and the council are where all the troops are going to live. 's let me remind you of what boston harbor look like at the time. here's an 18th century map of boston harbor. they thought the troops should go to the island as you can see has a beautifully refurbished barracks paying a lot of money during the seven years war and they thought they should be used but more than that with the 18th century actually it was pretty clear that if there are available beds troops have to go there first if there are not barracks than they should be put in public houses which are public and only then of those two places are not available could they be put into private housing. so they are barracks and they should go there.
