matt: what can he take?ou have followed the troop mobilizations and have pointed out that in his current set up he could invade ukraine, but does not have enough troops there to occupy the country, so what can he do? tina: well, there is a lot of speculations flying around amongst military experts and security experts, um, but in my view is full-blown invasion is next to impossible for russia. the costs would be very high. and the reason why i have said i think a pullback is possible is because putin has already managed to achieve important aims, one of them is to put into the mainstream this idea that russia's security interests are not respected. but there has been backlash as well, nord stream 2 and other considerations. the cost of invasion are very high. putin goal is to maintain optionality. if there is a pullback, the markets will rally, but this could happen again in six months, 18 months, six years time. matt: how important is nord stream 2 to him? and the flow of gas through other pipelines, does h

i'm matt miller.e just had the treasury auction where we saw a record low interest for i mary dealers. joining us now is ira jersey. ira, really interesting. rare that i say that about the five-year treasury auction. what does this mean? ira: one of the reasons why dealers took as little as they could is that non-dealers, investors, indirect bidders, took a pretty high share and apparently did pretty aggressively. the market, the auction cleared right where the market was thinking. it just, we keep on having relatively strong demand at these auctions. even though the federal reserve is about to hike. this just suggests we are close to maybe fair value in a lot of these places on the curve, at least in that belly and long end of the curve. the seven year tomorrow will certainly test that. are we no longer -- matt: are we no longer worried about inversion? ritika: we have already flattened -- ira: we have already flattened so much but keep in mind that just because of the calendar affects, two year trea

matt, we just don't know.t: we do know there's a pipeline going through ukraine that delivers about a third of the european energy needs. the nord stream 2 pipeline is obviously built and ready to go. but not flowing it. -- not flowing yet. we have seen prices skyrocket. i know olaf scholz is going to visit in moscow. is it possible for europe even to get off of that -- i don't want to say -- let's say dependency? because they need it. even if russia invaded ukraine, if in i know russia says they don't want to -- if, and i know russia says they don't want to, the europeans would still be paying for oil coming through. reporter: during the height of the cold war, those flows continued. oil and gas flows continued from russia into europe. matt, your 100% correct and the fact that europe is highly dependent on russian gas. it is much for cheaper -- it is much cheaper than getting lng from the u.s. or qatar. they are using nord stream 2 west as leverage point. we should note, it was interesting today, olaf scholz

matt: thank you for joining us.here is a lot going on, obviously so we can do this for an hour and still have things to talk about. coming up, we will get insight on how the russian and brazen of ukraine can affect credit markets. we will talk with john zito from credit at apollo which has a rating of $100 billion per year and origination. speaking of credit, something that caught my eye today is the cost of insuring russia's government debt which soared after global sanctions were placed on the country. there have been emergency measures to heal their financial sector and we will have a check on the state of credit next. this is russian credit default swaps and what bondholders pay or by as insurance against a default and you can see here that it gone up like a hockey stick. the cost is soaring to almost 1000 bases points from an average over the last four or five years of under 100. it's incredibly expensive now to ensure russian debt and that's what you would expect in a wartime like this. more talking credit nex

matt: basically on imaginable.ou could have left for the weekend not missed anything from the markets standpoint. the ecb is in an equally tough spot compared to the fed. i think this slows the ecb down. this will be a negative for the eurozone. for the u.s., more of a near-term inflationary shock. if you are the fed, what this has changed, we were in this cycle where everyone was one upping each other how many times the fed will hike. i think we have broken that cycle now. we have got to a point where everything is priced in, the market is ready for it. i don't think you'll have people coming out with 10 hikes, but that takes the tail risk off the table. finally a point where we can say may be worst has been priced in here. the ecb, even the thought of them hiking rates late in 2022 spooked the market, but that is off the table now. jonathan: that is your point, that they have to do quicker, do more. srikanth: specifically on the part of the ecb, the balancing act will be more difficult. they are a bit behind the

matt. what do you tell us a little bit about what this book tells us? well what it does peter and thank you for that very generous introduction. you know the book that we wrote was deliberately zigging while other people zags we used to say at the philadelphia inquirer. we knew that there'd be a tremendous amount of reportorial and investigative attention to voted to what happened in washington on january 6th and in and around trump's inner circle, in fact, i think everybody worked for him is now right being a book if it's not been published already so we decided to actually look at what we felt was the real threat to the american system, which was the concerted effort that was launched by the trump campaign in the sixth swing states around the country. so we wanted to understand you know, who were the people in the states who were educating and working and suing to try to overturn the election results and who were the people on the front lines of that fight who were the local election offi

and matt, you're who i'm talking about here, you're in a safe location because in the last hour, matt bradley, you have seen explosions where you are. tell me what is going on. >> yes, i mean i think i told you earlier that in kharkiv, the second largest city in ukraine, it had been quite calm, quite quiet in the central part of the city, and we heard successive rounds of bombardment that were a distance rubble and in the last hour, we heard sustained very loud, very close come bardment, so close, that we can almost feel the concussion and we actually heard car alarms going off all around the city. that is an indication that it was hitting close to or within central kharkiv so this is very troubling because up until now, it sounded as though, or we understood that russian soldiers had been on the exterior of the city. they had been on the sort of the beltway, if you will, the ring road around the city. i had stopped there and actually, we didn't know the level of resistance that they had met, the level of resistance the ukrainian forces had been putting up. now we understand that they
