joining us from london with more is matt bradley. matt, good morning.: jose, that's the million-pound question here. the government is facing a lot of criticism, of course there's no shortage of fingerpointing that's going on. as you mentioned, sky-high numbers here in terms of cases, about 40,000 a day for the past more than a week. that's way more than we're seeing on continental europe. here is the thing, jose, is that we're not necessarily seeing that pictured in the hospitalizations, and the deaths. the hospitalization rate has just started to increase, and the deaths have really more or less leveled off, especially compared to this time last year, when there was a similar number of cases, and so the government finished congratulating itself for the massive success of the vaccination pranl, they're wondering what needs to be done. they've stepped away from introducing as of last night, introducing any new measures that would crack down on public freedoms. but at the same time, they're saying they've managed because of the numbers i mentioned, to ki

and matt bradley is in london. s been an arrest in connection with the stabbing death of a member of parliament. what do we know? >> reporter: just happened a couple hours ago. we understand that 25-year-old man who as you mentioned has since been detained by police, he walked into what they call a constituent surgery. and all it is is just when a member of parliament sits and meets with constituents, takes comments. he was at a baptist church in essex a little bit east of where i am now here in london. and this man simply started stabbing sir david amos. and for a while we thought that he might have been rescued, might have been helped. an air ambulance landed and was trying to revive him, but it was very quickly that rest we learned that he had died from his wounds. this has already been sending shockwaves through the political establishment here because this is actually the second time in five years that politician here, a member of parliament, has been assassinated at knife point. the last time was jo cox back i

so, let's bring in nbc correspondent matt bradley, who's been following from london.r over a year, vaccinated over three-quarters of its population, but it's still facing this outbreak. what's driving the spike there and what does it mean for us on this side of the atlantic? >> reporter: the troubling thing that's driving the spike here, a lot of the reporting that's come out at least in the local press is that it's children, people who are ages 12-15. they are being encouraged to get additional shots. that's one of the really troubling things. now, whether or not it means the same thing for the united states, that's almost impossible to tell, garrett. i've been covering this on the international level for as long as this has been going on, this pandemic. and it's so hard to make a control group and to compare countries because none of them are the same. but one of the things that we can say is that this is about learning from your mistakes. that's one of the things that doctors here who are in an almost state of open revolt against the government, they are saying tha
