nbc 10's matt delucia is live in ambler. matt, what can you tell us so far?ell, pam, i just spoke with a woman that says she is the sister of a victim in this deadly shooting. she like the rest of us are trying to get more information from police. let me step out of the way. the scene is still taped off. investigators have been going in and around this apartment building throughout the night. this is on the 100 block of forest avenue. you see the tape there. the district attorney's office in montgomery county, they are out here as well. take a look at video within the last hour, we did see a car being towed away from the scene here on forest avenue. no word yet from police what that was all about. they are taking that to process that for evidence. we also saw a lot of investigators on the second floor of this apartment building. two people were shot around midnight. and, again, we have just learned from the sister of one of the victims, she came up to us and said her sister was killed here in this apartment. she is 54 years old. she has no idea why this happe

nbc10's matt delucia is live in center city. matt, tell us about what's going to happen. >> reporter: we're expecting a new trial date for monsignor william lynn, as you mentioned, he's out of prison. he's on bail but his legal troubles are not over yet. after lynn left prison in northern pennsylvania, there for 33 months, nearly three years. prosecutors have argued that lynn was responsible for transferring pedophile priests from one parish to another here in the philadelphia archdiocese. but the conviction was overturned box of evidence in the trial that is irrelevant during appeals. monsignor lynn is living with family members right now. but his lawyers say he received hundreds of letters of support from parishioners while in prison. but district attorney seth williams announced he will be seeking a retrial and that is why we are here today. that date will likely be set for next year. if convicted again, lynn would have to only serve at most a couple months because he was granted parole that was started in october. live at the

nbc10's matt delucia is live outside of headquarters in center city. matt, tell us what happened. >> reporter: philadelphia police tell us it's rare to make an arrest on a murder so quickly. the officer was in the right place at the right time. heard the gunshots while on patrol and rushed over to see what happened. around 10:00 last night at the corner of germantown avenue and cambria avenue. a 26-year-old man was on the ground shot once in the chest and the arm. that man later died at temple hospital. and officers saw a man running down cambria. one officer started a foot chase eventually coming up to him and arresting him. >> the officers were in the right place at the right time. around 10:00 at night, in the middle of august, when it's hot out, oftentimes the officers are busy with radio assignments, it's the busiest time of the year. things fell into place for the 26th district police with the shooting and they did a good job. >> reporter: and police say there are several cameras in that area pointing to where this happened. police haven't said or

matt delucia is live on scene with details of the fire this ç morning. matt, what do we know?> no one was inside the home at the time but a firefighter was hurt battling the enten fla-- intense flames and smoke. this is what it looked like as we pulled up to the scene around 1:15. heavy flames through the second and third floors of this row home on the 1300 block of south broad street, just south of wharton. it took firefighters about two hours to get this scene under control. one firefighter was taken to the hospital. the fire commissioner says he is stable. this happened just as heavy storm moved through. it's unclear what caused the fire. that's under investigation. neighbors tell us this happened fast and spread fast. >> i jumped out of bed, looked out the window. there was a guy laying the horn on and, half in his car, screaming, "wake up, wake up." there was people knocking on all the doors, all the doors along the block. >> i was dozing off to sleep an i kept hearing this honking, honking. i look out my balcony and saw flames coming out the house. >> there is some damag

nbc 10's matt delucia is live in our digital operations center. tt, police now accuse four swimmers, including ryan lochte, of lying. tell us more. >> authorities in rio say the athletes were not robbed at gun point as they claimed last week. gunnar bentz and jack conger departed after undergoing hours of questioning by brazilian police. ryan lochte has been back in the u.s. for a few days. feigen remains in rio. here's a police account of what happened. authorities say this surveillance video shows the swimmers trying to leave a gas station early sunday morning. this is after they damaged a damage room. and armed security guard points a gun at the athletes demanding they stay. the guard then demanded they hand over a monetary payment. the swimmers left before police officers arrived. of course we also have some statements coming in right now. ryan lochte's attorney said we stand behind our statement saying that the swimmers were absolutely robbed at gunpoint by people posing as police with badges and a gun. the u.s. olympic committee called the at

nbc 10's matt delucia is live outside the criminal justice center in philadelphia with more on that. matt? >> his attorney is asking a judge for the release. all while prosecutors are trying to figure out whether or not to retry. last month the pennsylvania state supreme court upheld a ruling that lynn deserves a new trial. prosecutors argued that monsignor william lynn knowingly transferred pedophile priests from when parish to another during his tenure as clergy. from the early '90s to 2004. lynn has already served nearly three years of a three to six-year sentence at a state prison in northeastern pennsylvania. we did speak with lynn's attorney, thomas bergstrom who says lynn should be released as of right now, with that overturned conviction, he's not being held on any charges. he would like lynn released on 10% of $250,000 bail. the 65-year-old monsignor william lynn could be released today or in the coming days if the judge grants that motion. prosecutors have not decided if or when they will go ahead and ask for that retrial. for now, live at the criminal justice center, matt d

nbc 10's matt delucia is live there this morning. matt, what have police told you so far about what happened? >> police say they'll be giving us more information a little bit later on. what we can tell you that we know at this point, two people have been shot. let me step out of the way here. crime scene investigators have been here, since just before midnight when this happened. we're on the 1 o block of forest avenue. investigators have set up the crime scene and lights arrange the outside of this building. take a look at some video from earlier. a lot of activity inside this apartment building. the two people were shot as i said just before midnight. one of the neighbors who lives across the way tells us she heard about five gunshots in all. no word yet on the condition of the victims, what the motive was for the shooting or if the shooter is still on the run at this hour. very few details at this point, although witnesses say they did not see anybody taken out, any victims taken out of this building overnight. but agains with we t

nbc 10's matt delucia is live in center city.e're expecting more of the same dangerous conditions today. that's why we issued a first alert. tell us more. >> absolutely, vai. it's 72 degrees out here right now. took a look at the peco building that displays the temperature. right now it feels a little humid. we haven't seen too many of the early morning runners just yet. as the morning progresses and the heat starts to build, you might see fewer and fewer people out later in the day. but take a look. we saw a lot of people outside over the weekend, just trying to stay cool any way possible. bringing a lot of water with them. and folks who did have to be outside, we saw they didn't stay outside for very long before taking that break indoors with some much-needed air conditioning. now, we did have three heat-related deaths in philadelphia over the weekend. over the next couple of days it's a good reminder to check on seniors and your neighbors and keep the kids and pets outside for as little time as possible. we also saw the people

nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us on the scene. us an update. >> a lot of firefighters were out here for this one. a lot of them have since left. talking about the road closures that jessica was mentioning, south broad street between wharton down to dickinson is still closed because of the fire investigation. wharton here has re-opened within the last hour. you can see over here, a lot of the hoses are still out. you see the damage from the fire around 1:00 this morning. take a look at video we got when we arrived here at the scene. this is what it look like when we pulled up, heavy flames from the second and third floors of this row home on broad street. it took firefighters about two hours to get this under control. this happened just as a heavy storm was moving through this area. at this point, it's still unclear exactly what caused the fire. still under investigation, the fire marshal is here. neighbors tell us this fire spread quickly. >> i jumped out of bed, looked out the window. there was a guy laying the hon on, half in his

nbc 10's matt delucia is live at the criminal justice center. explain what's happening today. >> well, tracy, prosecutors are still trying to figure out whether or not to retry the former church official. monsignor william lynn's attorney says he wants him out of jail now. last month, the pennsylvania supreme court upheld a superior court ruling that lynn deserves a new trial. prosecutors argued that monsignor william lynn knowingly transferred pedophile priests from when parish to another during his tenure as clergy. lynn has already served nearly three years of a three to six-year sentence at a state prison in northeastern pennsylvania. we did speak with lynn's attorney, thomas bergstrom who says lynn should be released as of right now, because of the overturned conviction he's not being held on any charges. he would like lynn released on 10% of $250,000 bail. monsignor william lynn is 65 years old. in the coming days or even today he could be released by that judge if that order is granted here. but prosecutors have not said at this point if
