a third of large companies are now looking at shorter work weeks to fight employee burnout cnn's matt eganow. all right. matt, before i guess we just leave because maybe now we have friday off. you've been reading the new survey. what does this show? >> oh, but i don't know what you think, but a four-day work week sounds pretty sweet, right? more time to see friends and family to run errands weekends might feel even more relaxing and we do know that a lot of companies are desperate to attract talent right now. and frankly, to keep the talent they have from birth turning out. and so maybe that's why this kpmg survey shows that 30% of ceos of large us companies say they are exploring shifts since schedule, including a four-day workweek or a four-and-a-half day workweek. now, i spoke to kpmg ceo paul nop and he said, you know, we probably have to tap the brakes a little bit. here. he said that companies are going to experiment here and there with four-day workweek, but he doesn't think widespread adoption is imminent >> still though we know >> that workers would not have to be sold on this id

commission and taking on what the ftc's chair said was robbing people of their economic liberty, cnn's matt egan is looking into this. he's joining us now. matt, this is a nationwide ban. what does this really mean? >> well, this new rule would a noncompetes, as we know that noncompetes, they've been around for ever. they vance people from jumping to rival companies for other certain period of time or a certain geography. sometimes the even prevent workers from starting their own companies. this is not some obscure thing. look at his 30 million us workers are bound by a noncompete agreements that's one in five workers and its everyone from the obvious, like bank executives, tech engineers, to factory managers, security guards, sometimes even dog walkers. it's amazing now here's what this new crackdown would mean if you're in the market right now for a job or you think you will be soon, you should know that when this new rule goes into effect, if it does, it would prevent for profit companies from making employees sign noncompete agreements. they no longer be able to say sign this or lose the job

now, the head of that company, don hanky told my colleague matt egan that trump had posted $175 million in cash as collateral, but the new york attorney general's office is saying because this company is not regulated here, they can't get a certificate ticket from the new york regulators, ensuring that they're financially sound so they want more information from the bond underwriter and from trump about what is backing this bond and they said that they want this within ten days, or else the bond is not valid. so again, putting more pressure on trump to come up with this. now i just spoke with a lawyer who does a lot of these bond deals and he told me that this is an appropriate step by the new york attorney general's office and the options that trump has is either getting pairing up with another company that is regulated in new york that is allowed to do these types of bonds in new york. or getting a court to agree to this. so again, this will be more filings before judge arthur engoron, who is overseeing this case. but the ag's office now challenging this bond and challenging whether o

let's get to cnn's matt egan, who has been tracking the markets wild ride. mat. the plunge has to do with the interest rate cuts. talk to us about this yeah that's right. briana, >> although we should note that >> us stocks are off their lows of the day at one point that that was done almost 500 points. you can see now around 367 points. now the concerns here do have to do with fed interest rates and when the fed is going to actually be able to start cutting rates, a lot of people had hoped it would happen in march. that of course, was it's not the case. may looks on likely know even june is 60, 40. >> and i think >> that some of this reflects some negative developments, right? like inflation, inflation has cooled, but maybe not enough for the fed to be able to declare victory by lowering rates. also, oil prices are moving sharply higher us crude above $85 a barrel. there's concern turns about the war in the middle east and whether or not that could spread out. but there are also some really positive developments out there as well, especially on the jobs market.

cnn's matt egan is here. what's going on >> john, listen, gold is having a moment right now.cooped up by everyone from central bankers in china to shoppers at costco. that is quite the range. gold prices of 14% so far this year up 11 of the last 12 days. look at those moving closer and closer to the $2,400 range. if you take a live louk gold prices right now, they're up another 0.2% again moving closer to $2,400,2 which would be the first time ever. so what's happening because this move is getting some attention on wall street, right? gold is a safe haven. so a spike like this could be looked at as potentially an ominous sign. there's a few factors you're won. >> gold is viewed as a >> hedge against inflation. we know prices have been going up consumer, consumer prices are slowing in terms of their growth, but there's still so much higher than before covid, rate cuts. the fed naibe cutting interest rates when that happens, sometimes that tends to boost gold prices. china is buying central bankers. they're, and other countries they're diversifying away from the dollar that is

cnn's matt egan is joining us now >> what are >> the sort of the smart minds, those who sort of overlookey expecting ends next? jobs report? yes, we had a bad week on wall street, but in general, the economy has been doing quite well, correct? >> yes or no, the economy it's really, really strong. maybe almost too strong from the perspective of investors. and that could be one of the reasons why markets have pulled back. but you know, it wasn't long ago we were talking about dao 40,000 potentially, and it turns out you have to get back down to 39,000 before we go too, 40,000 because that's what's happened as you mentioned, brutal week for the market down every day so far this week week as you mentioned, worst week on track for in over a year and yesterday was particularly bad market started up totally reversed course down 530 points, worst day in more than a year. now, what's going on? a few things. one is there are some concerns about what the fed is going to do next and whether or not the fed is going to be able to cut interest because again, the economy doesn't really look like it need

economic moment today, the federal reserve kicks off a highly anticipated to de, meetings cnn's matt egan is with us telling you it's interesting. i don't really think anyone's asking, oh, is the fed good to cut interest? great this time, that's where i'm john. i mean, if you're in the market for a mortgage or a car loan, you're going to be disappointed because the fed is widely expected to keep interest rates on hold for the six meeting in a row. look at this just a 3% chance of a rate cut tomorrow. so it would be shocking if they did anything tomorrow, very low chances at the next meeting in june even if you go up to timber, the last meeting before the election, it's just 60, 40 in favor of a rate cut. the problem of course, is inflation. remember, the fed spiked interest rates the highest levels in more than two decades to try to get inflation under control. they, the good news is that because of all of this tough medicine from the fed, you can see all of these rate cuts starting two years ago and now on hold because of this tough medicine inflation has calmed down. prices are no longe
