it is really a privilege to be here today with the mayor, matt haney, supervisor norming he, all of you are excited, we are thankful. it took us -- i made this speech five pages but i decided not to say it. it took us five years to build this beautiful school. we applied for and r.s.p. they were reviewing our r.s.p. we are very fortunate that they selected us. this is our dream. it does take a village to build a child development center. but it does take massive amounts of funding. for the past five years, many of our staff have been writing grants and collecting funds from everywhere that we could to build these beautiful schools. and then our architects. they were experts in building the rooms and regulations of the city. we had several fire inspections. every inspection was different than the other one. so either delaying the opening of the site. but we are fortunate that we are in san francisco. norman, mayor, mrs. hoss, this is a very unique place. one of -- i have been in here for 40 years. it is our teachers and their wages. we are planning to open the site much earlier but we we

. >> i want to thank the supervisors were getting this hearing on today and thank matt haney for calling it what it is, it is an emergency and a crisis. i work at late harm reduction programs. the harm reduction -- there's a harm reduction t-shirt that says support, not punished. it is a simple message but it is one that has not been inherent in the manner it needs to be. people who have substance use disorders should never be punished or having a disorder. they should be supported and programs should be saving people with dignity and respect and any time that the choice is, should i support or punish and you are choosing punished, then there is a problem with the paragraph that you are using and it will be ineffective. everything -- everywhere where we have had successful interventions have always had a nonjudgmental and a compassionate way of engaging those folks. normally people who use drugs are heavily abusing drugs in our front and center of those organizations. so we have to rethink how we are doing this and we have to expand on program models that are successful. the expertise in

supervisor matt haney and community leaders have announced a new system meant to address the growingman waste in the tenderloin. sarah with details now on the new plan. >> while we were waiting here we saw someone use this sidewalk as his bathroom. clearly this san issue here. hopefully this new pressure washing system will help. supervisor matt haney was joined by the tenderloin community benefit district to announce an increase in pressure washing sidewalks in the tenderloin. usually the tlc pressure washes once a month, now they are -- will do it once a week. every block will have a specific schedule to be cleaned. crews with tlc will also continue their normal efforts everyday of picking up trash. haney secured $260,000 in funds during this year's budget process for cleaning within the district. that in addition to an investment from property owners will allow this service to continue until 2034. it is a tough job but the appreciation for crews is obvious. >> when i see them hard working, they inspire me everyday. it almost brings me to tears. they deal with a tough job. they do

this bill was written by supervisor matt haney.t 6 which includes the neighborhoods of the tenderloin and soma. landlords in san francisco have 16 so-called just reasons to evict their tenet. however, as it stands today, those protections only extend to renters whose units were built in june 1979 or before. in order to evict someone who lives in the unit built after 1979, the landlord essentially does not need a reason. the ordinance would change that by lifting the 1979 cutoff date, thereby protecting tens of thousands of renters who live in units built in the last four years. supervisor haney also says this bill will close what he called the leupolz of a bill weasley passed in the state level. it was written by ge rent increases. it does not help everyone. if approved, haney's ordinance would extend those protections. supervisor haney has said that similar legislation was actually passed by the board of supervisors here about a decade ago, but it was vetoed by then mayor gavin newsom. however, the board is expected to pass it in
