this resolution today is based on the work from former colleague supervisor matt haney who authorizedlation to establish the income advisory group to advise on guaranteed income and universal basic income. one issue we should consider is whether the various pilot programs we established are working, and how we can move from pilot program to policy change as the title of the report states. let me just say as we begin very clearly i'm a strong supporter of universal basic income and guaranteed income. the covid-19 pandemic has exposed what is a ongoing and often theme in the city and that is one we truly are a tale of two cities and something that has gone on for quite some time in san francisco, and i think it is shown in how inequitable the recovery has been for different communities. in my district working families and middle class families are being squeezed with the cost of every day living on the rise. whether it is rent, transportation, child care, access to good and healthy food, families need support, and they need cash relief to help them get through the challenges that we fac

this resolution today is based on the work from former colleague supervisor matt haney who authorizedlation to establish the income advisory group to advise on guaranteed income and universal basic income. one issue we should consider is whether the various pilot programs we established are working, and how we can move from pilot program to policy change as the title of the report states. let me just say as we begin very clearly i'm a strong supporter of universal basic income and guaranteed income. the covid-19 pandemic has exposed what is a ongoing and often theme in the city and that is one we truly are a tale of two cities and something that has gone on for quite some time in san francisco, and i think it is shown in how inequitable the recovery has been for different communities. in my district working families and middle class families are being squeezed with the cost of every day living on the rise. whether it is rent, transportation, child care, access to good and healthy food, families need support, and they need cash relief to help them get through the challenges that we fac

we heard state sen wiener and assemblyman matt haney calling the response to monkeypox a public healthn this movie before and we've learned some pretty significant lessons. and we have a unique opportunity to focus on the sense of urgency in protecting lives. we know that vaccinations work. we know the best practices that exist with respect to public health. and that's why we're calling upon the sense of urgency to address this issue so that we can mitigate the type of impact that it can happen in the future. >> and assemblyman, the virus appears to be disproportionately impacting the community. some saying this moment invokes memories of the aids crisis of the can you explain? >> well, similarly, this is the part of the dark history in the past. with respect to the lgbtq community, but somewhat to the hiv aids crisis. we know that monkeypox. it's not just disease and that will impact the lgbt but that we're aching we realize that is disproportionately impacting the community. now. and so that's why it's important that we address this issue so that it does not get into a wider populati

supervisor mandelman here just last agreeing with sentiments shared by state sen wiener and assemblyman matt haneyderal government, a public health crisis what have your conversations been like with our state of health officials and perhaps even those at the federal level? >> you know, we're lucky to have the leadership of folks like senator wiener and supervisor mandelman here in san francisco and in california who have been calling out the the real lack of access to vaccine and testing resources for monkeypox. you know, we still just this morning, monkeypox was declared a public health emergency by the world health organization. and we're still lacking the sort of urgent response that we need in producing and getting those vaccines into communities across the state. this isn't just an issue impacting san francisco, even though we have the most of any city outside of new york in the entire country. but communities, you know, from san diego to sacramento to san francisco are all dealing with the same core issue, which is we don't have enough vaccines from the federal government to actually keep ou
