tonight as matt jablow tells us we hear for the first time from several of those firefighters who battled the blaze. >> reporter: lieutenant mike has fought dozens of fires and dealt with all kinds of situations during his nine years as a volunteer firefighter, the last two with the riverdale firefighter. >> went to a report of a house fire. >> reporter: but what happened two nights ago in riverdale hates was an entirely new and extremely painful experience for the 24-year-old firefighter. you see, lieutenant naples was one of seven firefighters from three departments who were injured when a wind-swept fire tore through a vacant house. lieutenant naples suffered serious burns on his face and tore legments in his shoulder when something on the house fell on him. >> could have been sheetrock, could have been metal. i don't know. it was too dark, too hot. get it off me and get out of there. >> reporter: a total van seven firefighters from riverdale fire department responded to the blaze. four of them were injured. tonight all four have now been released from the hospital. >> very painful. >>

matt jablow spoke with harris' wife this afternoon and he has the latest on the investigation into her husband's murder. >> it's like surreal. reporter: four months after she last saw her husband of 19 years. >> i said i love you. have a good day. he said you, too and i kissed him. that was it. reporter: seven days after his body was discovered at the bottom of a well in prince george's county. >> i can't really describe that kind of pain. reporter: debra harris says she still can't believe that her beloved lenny is gone. >> it was like a piece of your heart was torn. reporter: 53-year-old lenny harris, a popular community activist and small business owner from alexandria, was found shot to death in ft. washington exactly one week ago. >> we are actively working on multiple leads. reporter: this afternoon pong police announced the arrest of the second suspect in the case, 20-year-old ivan newman of charles county who is now charged with first degree murder and kidnapping. police continue to say that robbery was the motive for the murder, though they won't give out any details. >> not p

matt jablow reports it took an hour to free her. >> the devastation. >> reporter: it happened about 1orning here on lavery court in berk, virginia as the d.c. area was being buffeted by extremely high winds. >> this was a terrible thing that happened. >> according to the fairfax county fire department, a 70- foot tree fell on this house in the 5,000 block of lavery court. >> this was significant. >> reporter: pinning a woman to the floor of her bedroom. >> it landed on her and blocked her in her bed. >> reporter: trapping her husband as well. >> have you ever seen anything quite like this? >> not in our neighborhood. >> reporter: it took firefighters an hour to free the couple. the woman was taken to a local hospital. her husband was not injured. >> people got awfully lucky. >> reporter: yes, they he did. >> reporter: firefighters say they believe the tree was brought down by the strong winds overnight and the impact of the tree coming down moved the house slightly from its foundation. >> i don't like to uses the word luck. i try to just say they were blessed that they didn't have any

matt jablow following the story and joins us live with the latest. matt. >> reporter: anita, today's new was a real body blow for friends and family members of victims of 9/11 who say they have been led to believe for the past 10 years that their loved ones remains had been treated with the utmost dignity. >> it was just like a dream. >> reporter: scott says september 11th, 2011 was the worst day of his life. >> i lost my right hand person. >> reporter: after years of trying to heal the emotional wounds of that terrible day, he feels like his recovery has taken a significant step backwards. >> this is definitely opened up some old wounds. >> reporter: you see, his wife janice, a budget analyst for the army, was one of 184 people killed when american airlines flight 77 slammed into the pentagon on september 11th. >> she was one of the last remains to be identified. >> reporter: only parts of her body was found and he was assured by the defense department that any unidentifiable body parts would be buried at a mass grave in arlington cemetery. >> that's

matt jablow has that story from frederick, maryland. >> reporter: here in frederick north and west of the district, the area that was supposed to bear the front of today's storm, as you can see the roads are just a little wet but few people here are complaining. the snow started falling in frederick county early this afternoon and it looked for a while like it might actually accumulate. especially in the mountains. but by early this evening the snow had stopped falling and in downtown frederick the only sign of the storm was a dusting of snow on a few cars. how were the roads today? >> not bad at all. >> reporter: people we spoke to said memories of the wicked weather of the past few years are still very much stuck in their minds and they're grateful for this winter's mild conditions. what a difference from winter's past, huh? >> absolutely. yes, last year there was a tunnel just to get through the roads. a tunnel. >> reporter: the only question now is whether the roads will be icy for tomorrow morning's commute. people here in frederick are hoping tomorrow will be as mild as most of
