we have raymond james chief markets strategist, matt orton.why? >> liz, good to see you and i like alphabet's business because at the end of the day with the market is so focused on cloud and artificial intelligence but it is leading a multi-hundred billion dollar business behind. the cloud computing aspect of alphabet makes up 2% of revenues right now. so that is a small component and while google does still have ground to make up with respect to a.i. what was encouraging from this report that youtube spend was up, advertising spend, which is a good barometer for the overall consumer beat expectations so the core of alphabet's business continues to be incredibly strong and whenever you get 10% plus pullback on news like this, when the earnings estimates were beaten both on the top and bottom line, that's a good opportunity. i don't ashley like to move into stocks when there is such uncertainty but when you have such a high quality business i think it presents a unique opportunity for investors who may have not participated in some of the rise

james in minnesota. it was earlier this morning on our "washington journal" program we were joined by several legislators to talk about what they were expecting today. representative matt rosendale giving us his time. he's a republican from montana. talked and was asked about the idea of expanding the pows of the current speaker pro tem to manage the day-to-day business of the house until the formal speaker is elected. here's what he had to say about that. mr. rosendale: i think that would be a huge mistake. one of the problems we saw over the last 15, 18 years was the consolidation of power within the speaker's office and within what they call the rules committee. so many of us members fought very, very hard back in january in order to restore the rules, it was a change of the rules but it was a restoration of rules so that we have a regular order in congress again. so each member is empowered. we don't have a super legislative status that's been granted to anyone that gives them higher privileges and control than any other member. and i think it would be a huge mistake right now to try and grant additional powers to the speaker pro tem. host: is that the general cons

the transformative summer of 1876, the james gang got shot up in northfield, the battle of little bighorn took care of custer while hickock and matt masterson were doing their thing. everything seemed to be crammed together into this summer and they're covered in this tour de force book, the summer of 1876. so, chris, what got you interested in this specific year? how did you figure out all this stuff happened in this year? make you want to write a book about it i figured out actually the podcast that i produced, i had each one of these different stories. there's probably five main storylines in the book and so i'd researched each one of those individually over the course of trying to produce long form podcast series about them. but i quickly realized that i had never seen a book to all of them together, and it suddenly hit me that each book that i read, of course, focused solely jesse james or wild bill hickok or any those people. but none of them really referenced the other things that were happening at the same time, once i realized that there was about 90 day period from mid-june june to mid-september in 1876, that so of these

james. great job. and thank you, sir. as well. time is now 606. well new this morning, extra license plate readers are being used in san jose to fight crime. mayor mattn posted video on social media showing how he helped work crews install san jose's 108th automatic license plate reader. he says high speed camera technology has helped solve several crimes, including robberies, hit and runs, home invasions and stolen car cases. the mayor also says cameras allowed the city to better focus their enforcement while also maintaining privacy policies. well, the often heated debate over how to improve public safety in san francisco has taken another unexpected turn. san francisco supervisor matt dorsey announced yesterday he no longer supports his own plan to increase police staffing in the city. now, that's because dorsey says he made that decision after another member of the board added an amendment that he calls a poison pill to his proposal. where i have a problem with this is it feels to me like this amendment is holding hostage the city's ability and voters ability to make progress on a public safety crisis that they're facing now. the original charter
