i am matt miller. >> i'm alix steel. >> the cats are away. >> let's start with breaking news on housingnew home sales for april hitting the wire. mike mckee is with us. it looks to be at 6%. lessat would seem to be than forecast. you have to look at the revision pretty commerce department revised the last year's new-home sales numbers. that pushed up the march number. march had fallen off a cliff. now it is much better. it had been a 14% decline. it is nothing like that now. the increase is good. 14%.% decline instead of the increase looks better than it might have otherwise. we did ask three questions about this report earlier. here is what we can tell. the first question was, was it the winter effect? hard to know because new-home sales did not increase in the northeast. you would think that would have happened because the storms were over. there were storms in the midwest and south. whetherconclusive on there might have been more home buying. more people bought at the lower end of the scale this month. it looks like we are seeing the kind of momentum we want to see in housing startin

matt miller joins us from that event. what is he expected to say about this five-year plan? >> one of the things he is focus on is alvaro mayo. they are just now in the process of earning over there first offering for the u.s. in 10 years. it should be a lot of fun to drive. plansave very ambitious for this brand. some analysts have said that he will want out phil roe mayo to be the fiat audi, meaning it will be attainable, but a luxury brand, likes volkswagen. remember, it took volkswagen 15 or 20 years to achieve the kind of success it had been audi. very expensive to do that kind of thing, it takes a lot of funding and it will take a lot of years. he is expected to say, today, also that he wants to get jeep to be an international brand, really start selling it more in china and that he wants to continue his plans to boost the sales of maserati. those three brands are what we are expecting to hear him focus on, although he still needs to form an identity for chrysler and dodge, two brands that are left floating after the whale took over. a lot of moving parts here. fiat ha

matt miller has been looking into this issue for us.mer, -- our summer road trips going to be more expensive? >> they may be in the future. right now we are seeing relatives ability that should be surprising. over the last three years, if you take a look at the average nwide, we see it around $3.64. that is unusual compared to the swings that we saw in 2007, 2008, and 2009. may nottional average be that key to look at because there's such a big swing in the states. see prices up over four dollars in the most expensive states, the ones that are not connected, hawaii and alaska, they are very expensive. and then california is very expensive, it takes a lot of money to get the refined gas out there from the states with the refineries are located. you can see the cheapest gas, oklahoma, louisiana, you have gas close to three dollars a gallon. they are near those highs and lows that we have seen over the past 10 years. gas a lot. tax this if you live in california or tose other states, they add the gallon at about a rate of $.60. this will g

joining me to break it all down -- brian johnson, the deputy editor of -- matt miller, you know him,berg's bankruptcy columnist who was a bankruptcy lawyer for 35 years. i will start with you, bill. do people have any recourse to go after the old bankrupt gm? are they responsible for what happened? >> unless they can prove something to the bankruptcy judge. first, you have to get beyond having a claim against the law old gm which may not be worth anything. that went out the door in 2009. the first thing they have to do is establish they have a claim at all. bankruptcy wipes out claims. it may not be so terribly difficult, because bankruptcy law for about 100 years has said company orpt individual knows somebody has a claim and do not tell them they have a claim, then that claim rides through the bankruptcy. >> aha. alone plus a dollar and a half will not get you on the new york subway. if you have a claim against gm and they did not tell you you had a defective auto, you have the claim against all gm. you do not have a claim against new gm. it can ride through bankruptcy? >> it does,
