. >> let's start our coverage with meteorologist, david murphy and matt pelman is filling in for karenod morning. >> storm iraq has been working overtime this morning because of that coastal low started down to our south is pushing close to us and you can see what it's doing to the area. we have a decent amount of rain from philadelphia south into the northern and western suburbs. the closer you are to the lehigh valley the better chance you have of mixed precipitation and that could influid freezing rain and maybe wet snow. we are expecting this warm air to come up from the south and change you over to all rain over the next couple hours. for now you still got some issues up there. winter weather advisories are in effect earl today in those northern areas and, see that it's only up until about 7 o'clock in philadelphia's immediate suburbs then you get up into the lehigh valley and we're still looking at an expiration of this at about 7:00 to maybe 10 o'clock and then winter storm warnings are going to be in effect a little bit later on into the day up in the poconos where we think you

matt pelman you're the first to mention this on the air here.hat's going on with the traffic. >> well it has montgomery avenue shut down as you just said and montgomery avenue a busy stretch in the morning blocked off between old gulph road and brookhurst avenue. we want to give you some alternates. a lot of you use montgomery in the morning. stay up on bryn mawr avenue as a possible alternate. wynnewood avenue to wynnewood road another possible alternate. or i think depending on where you're coming from maybe use route 30 lancaster avenue stay out on the main line there as an alternate around that building fire. and of course we'll keep you posted because that's going the affect a lot of you this morning. also a pedestrian accident we were watching in bridgeport right by franzone's. luckily that cleared out no need to worry about that anymore. the crash in pottstown along charlotte street also cleared. this construction is far from clear. in fact it's ramping up today. it's the work zone along 422 between stowe and route 100 on the bridge there

matt pelman it's even colder for new year's eve.ve that forecast for you coming up. >> all right sounds like a bundler. good morning, day. not quite the same dull start as yesterday morning. several things cooking as you said out. wet overnight construction that was blocking the northbound side of 42 by creek road headed to 295 still wrapping up in the left lanes here but traffic is getting by at this point as you can see. there's a crash just in in falls township bucks county along route 1 southbound direction here by route 32 bridge street. you can see police on the scene. traffic getting by in this location as well. but something else to watch out for. in richland township downed wires from an overnight crash involving a tractor-trailer closing 309 west end boulevard between toll gate and station roads. stick to old bethlehem pike to get around that blockage. downed pole blocked one of the ramps as well so everything is reopened in that neck of the woods. matt. >> indonesian officials say bodies have been discovered in the java s

matt pelman of course has been watching this.rning. >> it's been kind of a major mess to start off this christmas eve day, erin and tam. we're still watching it and it looks like penndot is now restricting traffic on the vine street expressway westbound proper. before it was just the ramp that was shut down from the vine westbound to the schuylkill eastbound and 30th street but now you're seeing no traffic coming through whatsoever on the westbound side of 676 headed towards 76. let's talk about the alternate. in fact, they're spinning the cameras so we may get a better sense of what's going on here. i think they're forcing all westbound traffic off at the ben franklin parkway just off at the top of the screen forcing everybody off onto the parkway at this point. i would bail before you get to that point. bail at broad street and then use the city streets to work your way over to 76 eastbound or 76 westbound at this point and 30th street. changing situation on the vine that we'll keep watching. also a new crash on the pennsylvani

let's go right to dave murphy for accuweather and matt pelman is filling in for karen with traffic. >> storm tracker 6 shows us a little bit of change. we're drawing that line of changeover, that line of blue where you're looking at some freezing rain, maybe a few wet snowflakes down into parts of bucks county and areas close to trenton and i would be real careful this morning if you're in northern bucks, the northern montgomery county or even the northern half of chester county for some icy road conditions because we are seeing some reports of freezing rain and the radar now drawing that line a little farther south. and that, of course, goes for allentown, bethlehem, reading, easton, all of those areas to the north. for now anyway the air is cold enough up to the north where you are seeing some of that freezing rain and freezing precipitation mixing in. however farther south in philadelphia it's all rain. heavy rain down through the shore region and we also see some drying starting to push up in through wilmington and getting very close to philadelphia. some of this stuff may try and

chasing a record matt pelman.re going to show was christmas day looks like coming up in a few minutes. >> we know there's no one else you would rather spend the christmas eve morning with, of course, i mean your family. good morning, everybody, good morning, karen. we're live here along the vine street expressway with our first major accident of the morning. it's an overturned tractor-trailer blocking the ramp from the westbound side of the vine to the eastbound side of the schuylkill and 30th street station. a ambulance just pulled up on the scene. you can see people are already starting to slow down, these people that want to get onto the eastbound side of the schuylkill or head to 30th street station to catch a train are saying what do i do now, i can't use that ramp, blocked off because of the overturned truck. they can get on the westbound part of the schuylkill flip at girard or maybe bail out at broad street from the westbound vine and work their way through the city of south street to get on the eastbound

snow in other areas coming in and it's only getting up to 42 degrees today. >> let's head over to matt pelmanmorning. >> a little busyness building at matt said. a few traffic troubles for your tuesday trip to work. we love alliteration around here just a little bit busy at worst here on the schuylkill expressway this morning. eastbound side here by conshohocken you see the headlights headed in towards the conshohocken curve. it's a little slow. little slow again from montgomery into girard but overall not terrible. more substantial slowing in the westbound lanes and you'll see that as we pull in the big picture. just 11 miles per hour as you head westbound by city avenue out towards belmont. on 95 also some pretty slow speeds. 18 miles per hour approaching cottman where we still have that police activity off to the side in the work zone. then you move a little bit and then you hit the brakes again as you head southbound from past the betsy ross bridge on into girard avenue. also watching a few other issues out there this morning. this looks pretty bad but over all these issues are not huge.

let's go over to matt pelman. good morning. >> that's for sure. he mornings to break down this probably is not the morning you want your car to give out but that appears what happened here matt and tam. this is the ramp from the roosevelt boulevard route 1 southbound to city avenue and the schuylkill expressway westbound and those are the westbound lanes of 76 right up there at the top of the screen. this vehicle kind of taking out the left lane on this ramp. so, traffic is getting around it as you can see, maybe doing so a little too quickly. watch out for it. it could cause delays as the morning progresses but hopefully they get it towed away before too much as you head north and west this morning we are watching some icy patches. here in the lehigh valley we had an early morning crash on the northeast extension northbound approaching the lehigh valley interchange. that's long gone. but still watch out for slick spots on the interstate in allentown this morning. in upper providence we've got a crash to watch out for along ridge pike at township l

matt pelman has your traffic. >> good morning.we look at storm tracker 6 live double scan, no surprise we're seeing rain. yesterday we just had showers in the afternoon and evening hours. you can look at double scan and see a good soaking. we're also seeing what we didn't see yesterday, some areas of yellow. i told you we would see heavier rain. starting to see that as well. that means the rain is little steadier picking up a bit in its intensity in some spots. it's going to stay that way especially the first half of the day. let's look at the visibility reports. this was the big problem yesterday with travel. wasn't so much the rain but the visibility with the fog out there. so we have 3-mile visibility at this hour at philadelphia international airport, still an issue. 1.3-mile visibility in trenton, only .3 mount pocono, 2 miles in reading, .8 in atlantic city, so even flying out of atlantic city this morning that's an issue with those low clouds. temperatures no issue there. 40 degrees even in the poconos at this hour. is this

speaking of traffic let's get more on our "action news" traffic report on that and elsewhere with matt pelman. >> matt is in the traffic center. hey, matt. >> we're needing to get creative to get around these problems like the 422 situation claw closing all the westbound lanes between armand hammer boulevard and 724. they just started letting the left lane by but the right lane and on-ramp remain blocked because of that overturned trash truck that caught fire. what a mess and speeds are also still a mess, just 7 miles per hour as you come west of limerick. so i'd stay local on ridge pike and high street or down on 724 as alternates. meanwhile out to delco we're here on the blue route 476 northbound between broomall and villanova. still have this crash taking out the right lane. just the two left lanes squeezing by. and we're looking at a major backlog. if you come north of the route 1 media bypass through this point in fact look at the parked traffic here close to broomall. not moving whatsoever. again, alternates to the blue route always include 320 or 252. they're going to be a much better

, now for another check of the highways and by ways on a busy monday night. >> let's go back to matt pelmannews" traffic center. what's going on matt. >> first afternoon commute of the new work week giving us some problem here in cherry hill, rick and monica. a crash on the eastbound side of route 70 blocking all lanes at greentree road. no eastbound traffic is getting by. if you normally take 70 eastbound to head over toward marlton and medford think about using 73 southbound or kresson road as a local alternate and the delays from the 70 eastbound blockage are spilling back onto 295 northbound as you can see. real substantial area of red there headed toward route 70 in cherry hill. on 295 southbound better news approaching 38. that crash is now off to the side. we have a wreck here on the ramp from 95 northbound to the vine street expressway westbound partially taking out the right lane. giving you slow speeds us a exit from 95. and as you guys just said protests continue in lower merion blocking portion of morris of a lancaster avenue and montgomery avenue. watch out for rolling closures

. >> matt pelman keeping tabs on that in the "action news" traffic center today. att. >> i would say delays are also pretty strong on this friday afternoon as we attempt to head home and start the weekend brian and shirleen. broken down truck on the blue route. both lanes opened as you head up towards media. it caused a huge backlog still here on 95. these are the southbound lanes of 95 just slowly creeping along from just past the airport through this point near 420 on down to 476 the blue route and of course northbound delays as you travel through delco on 95 as well. got a crash we're watching in hatboro this afternoon. close to the mickey d's. not bad so far on the pennsylvania turnpike. vehicle broke down in trenton along 29. southbound side at cass street the right lane is out of commission because of that broken down vehicle. hammonton a serious accident caused some injuries along the white horse pike at egg harbor road there by the sunoco station. we've got several christmas parades around the region this season. we'll have a blockage at somers point atlant

matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center with an update for us. >> that story very nice.y spirit. but about the traffic this evening i've got two words, bah humbug. what a mess. we start in new castle county with a crash on the northbound side of 495 at route 13 dupont highway taking out two lanes causing delays on 495 that are spilling back onto 95 northbound. there you see by churchman's road just 18 miles per hour. i think once you get up to the split i'd stick with 95 northbound through wilmington instead of hopping off onto 495 northbound. farther north on 95 you're going to hit a jam by the state line up to 320 in delaware county. that's where that crash we showed you during the last half hour has cleared out but as you can see the delays have not cleared out. 95 in the great northeast some speeds just like 12 miles per hour so pretty much a normal afternoon there by the betsy ross bridge. we've had a few accidents on the schuylkill still one there eastbound by south street. but it's off to the side and overall on the schuylkill things are improving a bit at least.

matt pelman with details in the traffic center. t. >> it certainly was this morning, easy on the ride this morning. this afternoon that's a bit of a different story because now everybody is awake even after they slept in and trying to get here or there and it's leading to some problems. one of them here on the schuylkill expressway eastbound as you go to get on 26th street southbound to head toward the platt bridge. it was an accident. they're together away the last vehicle and they have the right lane blocked on the ramp from the schuylkill eastbound at 26th street southbound as they do that. this isn't causing a huge delay but this is. on 422 a garbage truck overturned and caught fire. what a mess out here in the pottstown area. all westbound lanes of 422 are blocked between armand hammer boulevard and 724. speeds just in the teens as you come away from sanatoga and head towards the closure pointer so stay up on ridge pike, high street or down on 74 as alternates around the 422 westbound closure this afternoon. also a crash in wes

on friday, yes, we did make it, matt pelman with the "action news" traffic report. >> we would love to the traffic so you can get home quickly but unfortunately we can only tell you about the situations you want to avoid. there's plenty of traffic out there on this friday afternoon. here on the blue route 476 actually did fix a situation. there was a crash here on the southbound side approaching route three broomall upper darby that they just towed away. so, everything is opened here on the blue route southbound but it's taking almost double what it ideally should to get from the schuylkill on down to 95. speaking of 95, extra slow on the southbound side from the airport on down to 320. have a couple accidents in the mix there but they're all off to the side. and 95 to the great northeast also looking really slow with speeds just like 12 miles per hour there around the betsy ross bridge. we also have a crash in north philadelphia to avoid along north broad at ontario. police on the scene there. there's a fire location in ardmore along saint georges road at montgomery avenue. also a cra

. >> matt pelman cannot wait on the new year. countering down the hours. >> so exciting. we're just under 18 hours left, just under 18 hours remaining in 2014. we'll try and make the most of them, matt and tam and as we do that weary countering some of the things that happened this year. one of the things that was a little bit of an inconvenience was the closure of the ramp from spring garden industry to the westbound side of the schuylkill expressway. an inconvenience no longer because yesterday they finally reopened that ramp after we will be without it for several months so go ahead this morning, use the ramp from spring garden to the westbound side of 76 and you can see on 76 traffic's moving well with no delays. we expect light volume again this morning as you head out if you have to head into work. over on 95 speeds still in the 50's as you come southbound. we are getting word, though, of a broken down vehicle on the roosevelt boulevard northbound at bustleton avenue. watch outer for it in the inner drive. also a new crash
