her for months in gateway about 50 miles from grand junction on the western slope. 9news reporter matt renoux is there. you've heard from what neighbors saw before the suspect was arrested? >> reporter: we have, kyle. for the past several years they've known of him and seen him around, but it seemed as if really didn't want to be known. investigators say the information coming out of this case, the information out of the mesa county sheriff's office tells of a colorado woman's life that turned into a nightmare lived out in this house in the small town of gateway where police say the suspect, claude wilkerson, lured and kept a homeless woman for months using chemicals to see her sedated and chaining her to a bed and then sexually assaulting her repeatedly. according to the mesa county sheriff's department a young run-away girl helped the man, got away and notified authorities. a deputy went to the house and was able to see the victim who wasn't tied up at the time but giving him signs that she needed help. >> met with mr. wilkerson and the young lady, identified that there was something wrong,

matt renoux joins us live. the plan is to try to control illegal camping? >> reporter: you bet, people, kim, that authorities say are just passing through, usually staying for about a week, maybe two, and then heading on. communities throughout colorado have seen a rise in their population in recent years and clear in clear creek county, the authorities say the problem with the illegal campers is illegal camp fires which can be dangerous and trash left all over the place. more and more people seeing trash like this all over clear creek county. clear creek county sheriff's department started a task force to deal with illegal camping. contacting people who are doing it and guiding them to public services that may help. they say illegal camp fires can be dangerous as we head into the warmer months and illegal trash dump are being seen more and food banks are seeing more demand and are having a hard time keeping their shelves stocked. authorities are looking into laws around idaho springs in clear creek county saying right now illegal camping laws are too vague

matt renoux shot this in silverthorne, there has been strong winds and blowing snow, it makes it difficult to drive in. meteorologist danielle grant is in the backyard, hopefully hanging on to your hat. >> the umbrella, my gosh, it has been a tale of 2 different seasons across the state with the snowfall in the mountains, wild winds and warm temperatures across eastern colorado, it is a mixed bag, just the way we like it. the red flag warning is in place until 7:00, the entire i-25 corridor to the eastern plains, even parts of southwestern nugraphica and western kansas also a part of that, easily. 45, 50, 60 miles an hour wind speeds for a possibility throughout the remainder of the evening. right now, current wind gusts in towards dia, fort collins, greeley, broomfield, and even around the foothills, 36 miles an hour gust in nederland and 60 miles an hour speeds for berthoud pass. cheyenne, 40 miles an hour speeds, i-80 and i-25 in wyoming will be gusty. the high wind warning until 8:00 for folks there with gusts as high as 65 miles an hour. it has been a beautiful day, tough to find any

that's why one of us is doing koebrich. 9news mountain newsroom reporter matt renoux. >> reporter: it was definitely a welcome sight to see. there's still a lot of snow on the ground, but after all that warm weather, that snow is starting to melt in a lot of places pretty quickly. so we could use a lot more snow. ski areas around summit county with an inch or 2 this morning is pretty nice. the state snowpack is right about average right now, but weather watcher rick bly said it's only because november and december brought so much snow. in fact, he says the last big snow event around summit county was back in early february. without that we'd be well behind the curve for snowfall. so more snow is needed because three weeks of warm dry weather is melting that snowpack quickly. >> we had a really good snow base to start the season with, but the wind and the last three weeks of sun have taken a toll on the snow. it's been so warm we've been losing a lot of snow daily. predictions out there with el nino that we'll see a better than average winter as far as april and march go. so the coming
