matt rivers joins us now from san diego. how concerned are authorities about the river levels? >> reporter: yeah, i can tell you the rain really picking up here in san diego over the last few minutes. the threat of heavy rain, flash flooding will continue without question throughout the night. >> matt, thank you. let's get to rob marciano who is tracking it all. time out this flood threat for us. >> reporter: the center is coming through the palm springs, palm desert area. we had winds gusting over 30 miles per hour, all sorts of debris from these palm trees littering the streets. roads are blocked because of heavy rain and fallen trees as a moderately strong tropical storm is coming through the deserts of southern california. something i have never experienced. we have flash flood warnings up for this area, parts of l.a. as well. a very high risk of seeing more flash flooding and some mudslides across much of the interior of southern california. another 4 to 6 inches of rain potentially in some of these mountainous areas. that's going to do some damage. heat across the midsect
