matt willis, the health officer for marin county. thanks a lot for your time. dr. willis: thanks. to be with you. kristen: i think it's important to know this isn't a general lifting of mask requirements, that is still part of the bay area framework and they will keep indoor masks in most situations until several metrics are met, right? dr. willis: that's right. that's an important point. this is really the beginning of our tiptoeing back towards normalcy. we're beginning to peel back restrictions that were imposed at the beginning of that surge in late july, early august, imposed mask restrictions that we think now because we are doing so much better in terms of case rates and transmission rates, that we can begin to carefully peel those back and take us one step in that direction. kristen: all right, and by saying case rates are good, i think you are talking about new cases averaging less than two dozen a day, one to two dozen a day? is that right? dr. willis: that's right. we're looking to the cdc tracker to determine what our case rates are, to monitor case rates. it's a tiere

matt willis plans to have his child vaccinated and says parents will have lots of options. >> we have 12 clinics already scheduled for the month of november and our pharmacies, our health care providers. >> reporter: jean elle. nbc bay area news. >> what about the other health care providers? when will they be ready? we've been busy asking questions. stanford health care said it is pressing and waiting on that guidance from the cdc on when it can start vaccinating children. as jean mentioned, kaiser plans to receive its first supplies the first week of november. as for booking appointments, you'll be to have a little patient. you may be able to do it in early november. stay tuned for that. as far as pharmacies go, we went online. so far it looks like you can't book any appointments at walgreens or cvs but they did say, we've played a prominent role. we are prepared to expand vaccine eligibility to ages 5 to 11 as soon as authorized to do so by public health agencies. that being said, many parents won't be rushing to book appointments. in a reason study by the kaiser foundation, 6 in 1

matt willis. nice to have you on the program.ore we get going on the big announcement from your county today, i know you, yourself, had covid last year. if you don't mind me asking, how do you feel? any kind of lingering effects? >> yeah, i'm fortunate. i'm feeling well. that was obviously a challenging chapter. a couple weeks just really laid out in bed. it gave me a lot of respect for how serious this illness can be, and that really impacted and informed our approach as a county. >> so many people have gone through what you have gone through. let's talk about the business at hand now. only marin county, if i'm correct -- correct me if i'm wrong -- and san francisco have these new rules now. no masks indoors for gyms, college classes, and religious gatherings among the other things. what makes you comfortable with doing this? >> well, you know, we've been talking about following the science at every step. you know, that includes when we're imposing restrictions, and that applies when we are lifting them. in this case, you know,
